About The Position

Monitors the manufacturing process to assure compliance with IATF 16949 requirements and expectations. This role involves using various measuring instruments and tools to check products at different stages of production, documenting findings, and ensuring adherence to specifications. The inspector also plays a role in sorting discrepant parts and instructing packers on proper procedures.

Requirements

  • Must be familiar with stamping and assembly processes and know how to use inspection tools, gages, instruments/devices.
  • Must be able to read, write and comprehend inspection procedures including blueprints and basic math including the metric measurement system.
  • Information gathering - knowing how to find information and identifying essential information.
  • Selective attention - the ability to concentrate and not be distracted while performing a task over a period of time.
  • Problem sensitivity - the ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong.
  • Product inspection - inspecting and evaluating the quality of products.
  • A high school diploma with 2 year’s experience in stamping and welding.
  • Must be able to lift parts up to fifty (50) pounds and stand for long periods of time (up to 8 hours/day).
  • Visual, speaking, and listening skills and/or communication skills are essential to this position.

Responsibilities

  • Using measuring instruments, gages, fixtures, and tools, checks first piece to approve start up, in process to monitor consistent compliance, and last piece (end of run review) to insure product meets requirements, documenting same.
  • Verifies job instructions are followed for correct part number, quantity, and container usage.
  • Tags appropriately, non-conforming and in process parts and communicates same to appropriate manufacturing supervisor and tool room personnel.
  • Performs sorting procedures for discrepant parts.
  • Instructs packers regarding methodology and quantity for each container.
  • Completes all data/documentation required on the product using Standard Operating Procedures and quality system manual/procedures.
  • Inspects materials, products, and work in progress for conformance to specifications.
  • Tests and measures finished products, components, or assemblies for functioning, operation, accuracy, or assembly to verify adherence to functional specifications.
  • Maintains all checking and testing equipment in good working condition.
  • Performs audits as directed by immediate supervisor in compliance with Quality Assurance procedures.
  • Performs any visual, physical, or mechanical checks/tests required to insure acceptable product is produced and shipped to customer.
  • May be required to perform weld destruction/tear-down testing as directed.
  • Oversees and assists with containment requirements.
  • Communicates with other workers by providing information to supervisors, fellow workers, and subordinates via face-to-face, written, or telephone/electronic transfer.
  • Gathers information needed to do the job by observing, receiving, and otherwise obtaining information from all relevant sources.
  • Marks items for acceptance or rejection, records test results and inspection data, and compares findings with specifications to ensure conformance to standards.
