Responsible for gaining a working knowledge of and performing fire protection inspections and 24-hour service under direct supervision of an Inspection/Service Technician. This role involves assisting Inspectors with inspecting, testing, and maintaining fire protection systems in accordance with NFPA codes. The position requires developing knowledge of life safety and NFPA codes and standards, as well as fire sprinkler systems, fire alarm systems, fire suppression systems and their devices, appurtenances, critical components and operations. The Inspector will perform testing and maintenance under direct supervision, complete weekly on-the-job training documentation, and differentiate between inspection deficiencies and necessary corrective actions. Adherence to SFS’s Safety program, SDS book, Hazardous communication program, policies and procedures is mandatory, including participation in weekly Toolbox talks and knowing the location of all related safety documentation. The role also requires attending Inspector training sessions to stay updated on technology and approaches, beginning the NICET exam cycle application within the 3rd evolution of training, preparing for the NICET exam within the 4th evolution, and testing for NICET during session 5 (approximately within 1 year of hire). Trainees must pass NICET Level II certification in Inspection Testing & Maintenance of Water Based Fire Protection Systems prior to achieving “Inspector” status. Other duties may be assigned.
