About The Position

Hill International is seeking an Inspector in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. This role involves inspecting each stage of construction up to completion, interpreting plans, specifications, and codes, and verifying contract work is performed in accordance with all applicable governing codes and regulations. The Inspector will monitor construction sites for safety violations, prepare Non-Conformance Reports when work is not performed to approved standards, and maintain daily activity logs and reports with photographs. Additionally, the role includes reviewing or preparing interim progress reports for contractor payments, monitoring contractor-testing activities, and preparing reports on labor, material, and equipment on site. The Inspector will determine if construction conforms to plans and specifications, conduct quality surveillance of specific quality-related activities, and assist in maintaining a safe work environment. This position also provides Construction Safety and Security field services, including Site Safety and Security Reviews for construction equipment, personnel, work procedures, and traffic control. The role involves coordinating the preparation of inspection survey reports, cost estimates, and maintenance records, ensuring timely submittals. The Inspector will also arrange, coordinate, and oversee technical inspections such as electrical, landscaping, soil testing, concrete, and asphalt mixes, and reinforcing steel for conformance to specification requirements, and coordinate test laboratory activities.

Requirements

Bachelors in Civil Engineering or Construction Management preferred.
5+ years of project experience in transit or rail construction.
Strong understanding of construction methods, standards, equipment, quality and safety per state and federal requirements.
Candidate should have strong computing skills including competency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Microsoft Excel, Word and SharePoint.
Experience using mobile devices, such as iPads, for reporting preferred.
Ability to interpret plans, specifications, special provisions, and other contract documents.
Ability to independently identify potential problems and propose solutions.
Sufficient communication skills both written and oral.
Valid driver’s license.
Must work on-site in Pittsburgh, PA during night shift hours, Monday-Thursday PM.

Responsibilities

Inspects each stage of construction up to completion.
Interprets plans, specifications, and codes and verifies contract work is performed in accordance with all applicable governing codes and regulations.
Monitors construction sites for safety violations.
Prepares Non-Conformance Reports when work is not performed to the approved standards.
Maintains daily activity logs and reports with photographs, in a manner agreed prior to the work.
Review or prepare interim progress reports for contractor payments.
Monitors contractor-testing activities.
Prepares reports on labor, material, and equipment on site.
Determines construction conforms to plans and specifications.
Conducts quality surveillance of specific quality-related activities as necessary.
Assist in maintaining, supporting, and promoting a safe work environment while complying with safety rules, policies, and procedures.
Provide Construction Safety and Security field services, as directed, including but not limited to Site Safety and Security Reviews including for Construction Equipment, Personnel, Work Procedures and Traffic Control.
Coordinate preparation of inspection survey reports, cost estimates and maintenance records.
Timely submittals of these reports and records.
Arranges, coordinates and oversees technical inspections such as electrical, landscaping, soil testing, concrete, and asphalt mixes, and reinforcing steel for conformance to specification requirements.
Coordinates test laboratory activities with onsite Quality Management team as well as Contractor’s Quality Control team.
