About The Position

Responsible for gaining a working knowledge of and performing fire protection inspections and 24-hour service under direct supervision of an Inspection/Service Technician. This role involves assisting Inspectors with inspecting, testing, and maintaining fire protection systems in accordance with NFPA codes. The trainee will develop knowledge of life safety and NFPA codes and standards, as well as fire sprinkler, fire alarm, and fire suppression systems. Responsibilities include performing testing and maintenance under supervision, completing training documentation, differentiating between inspection deficiencies and service needs, and understanding safety programs and procedures. Participation in weekly Toolbox talks and Inspector training sessions is required to stay updated on technology and best practices. A key requirement is to begin the NICET exam cycle application and preparation within specific training evolutions, aiming to pass NICET Level II certification in Inspection Testing & Maintenance of Water Based Fire Protection Systems prior to achieving "Inspector" status.

Requirements

  • HS Diploma or equivalent required
  • 0-2 years’ experience inspecting fire protection systems preferred
  • Must be able to work alone and as part of a team

Responsibilities

  • Assist Inspectors while they inspect, test, and maintain fire protection systems in accordance with NFPA codes
  • Perform testing and maintenance under direct supervision of an Inspection/Service Technician
  • Complete on the job training documentation each week
  • Differentiate between inspection deficiencies and service required to correct found deficiencies
  • Understand and follow SFS’s Safety program, SDS book, Hazardous communication program, policies and procedures
  • Participate in weekly Toolbox talks
  • Inspectors must know where all related safety documentation is at all times on each project
  • Attend Inspector training session at SFS to stay abreast of changing technology, installation and testing and reporting approaches
  • Begin NICET exam cycle application within the 3rd evolution of training
  • Begin NICET exam preparation within the 4th evolution of training
  • Begin to test for NICET during session 5 or approximately within 1 year of hire date or enrollment into Inspector training classes
  • Pass NICET Level II certification in Inspection Testing & Maintenance of Water Based Fire Protection Systems prior to achieving “Inspector” status
