About The Position

Leads all aspects of the casting Inspection process and ensures needs are being met. This role involves reviewing, documenting, and reporting on inspection processes, including third inspection, reheat treatment, and PDI. The Inspector Team Lead is responsible for identifying and correcting casting surface discontinuities, establishing part-specific instructions, and ensuring quality standards are met throughout the cleaning and inspection phases. The position also involves training inspectors, maintaining communication between departments, and assisting with quality improvement initiatives.

Requirements

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
Ability to write simple correspondence.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
Basic computer skills required.
Ability to obtain MT and VT both level II
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

Stop everything at 3rd inspection: review, document and report each Friday or Monday.
Need a continual system that does not start and stop. Can be achieved by regular discipline and review.
Review reheat treat. (Re-Q, Re-Norm, Re Temper) report weekly.
PDI: Review castings, Document, and correct. Report monthly on what is found at the dock. (4-hour window from casting hitting the dock)
First inspection: Review incoming quality
Report foundry quality issues: daily or weekly to foundry Engineering / Manager and supervision. Escalate to Foundry Supt. and Director of Ops.
Report primary cleaning defects: daily or weekly cleaning room supervision. Escalate to Cleaning Room Supt.
Move from one station to other check work and make any corrections.
Establish NPI process.
Manages NPI/reintroductions/rev change review meetings at primary blast to paint locators/important features to ENSURE primary cleaning quality.
Notices and reports foundry quality at this time as well.
Training, monitor and improve process based on above information.
Gage training, retraining.
Establish and maintain excellent communication pipeline between Inspection and other departments.
Examines casting for imperfections per Work Instructions
Identifies casting surface discontinuities, records the data on a tracking form, and enters the data into the electronic database
Works with Cleaning Room Supervision to establish Part Specific Instructions for casting cleanliness
Works with multiple departments to ensure castings and/or processes meet requirements
Communicates casting imperfections effectively to production
Complies with the company safety policy and practices at all times.
Wears appropriate PPE at all times.
Follows workload priorities as set by production personnel
Follows job work instructions and training matrix, where applicable.
Add verification of TPM completion
Annual Inspector audits
Establishment/Education of acceptance criteria for new and existing part numbers
Random audits of conformance to existing PSIs and Work Instructions
Assist with CI projects or Internal Corrective Actions as appropriate
