About The Position

Intertek is seeking an Inspector II Petroleum to join their Caleb Brett team in Carteret, NJ. This role involves measuring, sampling, and reporting findings on bulk petroleum and refined products. The position requires travel of at least 30% of the time and involves working six consecutive days followed by two days off, on an on-call/as-needed basis, including holidays and weekends. Intertek Caleb Brett specializes in cargo inspection and analytical assessment services for the oil and gas, chemical, and commodities markets, leveraging a global network and over 130 years of customer service experience.

Requirements

  • Basic mathematics skills, including fractions.
  • Ability to work in an automated environment.
  • 6 months of experience.
  • Ability to work on an on-call basis, including weekends and holidays.
  • Valid Driver’s License and reliable driving record.
  • Reliable Personal Transportation Required.
  • Must have or be able to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).
  • Adherence to safety practices and policies.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment with shifting priorities and demanding deadlines.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to effectively prioritize and organize workload, with efficient time management.
  • Ability to communicate and interact effectively in verbal, written, and presentation formats.
  • Fundamental technical and administrative skills required to perform job duties.

  • Ability to travel as business needs dictate.

Responsibilities

  • Understand and adhere to Caleb Brett safety procedures.
  • Perform volume measurement, temperature measurement, and sampling of commodity materials contained or conveyed in lines, shore tanks, rail cars, tank trucks, and vessels.
  • Conduct custody transfer surveys of commodities transferred to and from rail cars, tank trucks, shore tanks, and vessels.
  • Perform routine equipment calibration, verification, and function checks.
  • Verify and communicate results, making entries into the appropriate media (print or electronic) to ensure data validity and traceability.
  • Provide on-the-job assistance and receive training from more experienced inspectors.
  • Communicate and coordinate with terminal, transport, and company personnel to ensure smooth execution of duties.
  • Monitor the availability of necessary supplies and report needs to the Dispatcher or Coordinator.
  • Organize and coordinate jobs to ensure timely service delivery and submission of reports and samples.
  • Maintain work areas, records, and equipment in a clean, organized, and functional condition.
