About The Position

Granite State Manufacturing is a leading contract manufacturer of large, complex, precision machined and welded components, supporting the US Navy in building submarines. We specialize in high-mix, low-to-medium volume production, delivering precision, quality, and on-time performance on custom-engineered products. Our capabilities include large-format CNC machining, heavy fabrication and welding (MIG, TIG, FCAW, SAW), assembly, inspection, and testing, and program management for complex builds. About the Role Interprets and applies work instructions and blueprints to determine dimensions and tolerances. Interprets and applies Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerance (GD&T). Measures, inspects, tests and verifies machined, welded and finished parts for conformance to specifications. Operates, sets up, and (as applicable) programs CMM’s, height gages, comparator, etc. Provides support for quality projects dictated by the Quality Leadership.

Requirements

Two-year certification from college or technical school; or 5 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to operate, set up, and (as applicable) program Mitutoyo CMM’s.
Must be able to interpret and apply Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T).
Must have the ability to work as a team player in a group or team environment and must be able to work independently without supervision.
Must be flexible enough to work in all areas of operation per the direction of the Leadership.
A personal and professional background sufficient to secure a Government Security Clearance is required.
Due to the nature and importance of GSM’s work, our positions require access to export-controlled information. Therefore, all candidates must qualify as a U.S. Person under applicable export-control/ITAR regulations or otherwise be authorized to access such information under U.S. law.

Responsibilities

Supports First Piece, In-Process, Final, and F.A.I. Inspections.
Interprets blueprints or specifications to determine dimensions and tolerances.
Verifies specified dimensions of product or raw material using verniers, micrometers, intramics, CMM, height gages, comparator, scales and or/other tools.
Measures angular dimensions, radii, height, thickness, location, thread lead, and other specifications.
Computes angles, radii, and other unspecified dimensions of work piece by using sine bars.
Measures surface finish of parts.
Inspects first run parts and assemblies.
Examines material or product for surface defects such as cracks, pits, and incomplete welds.
Tests units for fit of moving parts and mechanical functioning.
Tests parts for hardness.
Compares product with parts list or sample model to ensure completion of assembly.
Identifies, documents, and clearly communicates nonconforming conditions. Segregates and tags defective parts and records defect details in accordance with quality procedures
Writes reports regarding inspection and testing results.
Operates, sets up, and (as applicable) programs Mitutoyo CMM’s and FARO Arm.
Supports inspection duties, quality objectives, and the Quality Management System.
Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
Verifies conformance of finished work piece to specifications.
Assists in other areas in support of product conformity.
Works cross-functionally with Manufacturing and Engineering to resolve quality issues in real time and support production flow.
Facilitates effective communications and working relationships (including answering department phone).
