Under limited supervision, this position inspects and reviews City Capital Improvement Plans (CIP) or Developer Reimbursement Projects to ensure compliance with contract documents, City codes, and safety and environmental requirements. Performs multiple types of inspection/coordination of City of Austin construction projects (new and renovation work) for compliance of contracts, codes, specifications, health and safety, and environmental regulations. Performs inspections on CIP projects and developer reimbursements. Reviews plans, specifications, contracts, ordinances, etc. Records data on appropriate forms and logs, etc. Coordinates division/section activities with outside contractors and other divisions/sections. Investigates consumer/citizen complaints to determine validity. Schedules and observes flow tests, lab tests, soil density tests, and/or any other types of tests. Interprets, explains, and enforces City policies and procedures regarding technical standards, specifications, and ordinances. Checks and verifies contractor licenses, permits, authorization, and insurance. Compiles data and information for reports, cost estimates, change orders and revisions, and construction progress payment. Serves as spokesperson for the City to answer inquiries from concerned citizens. Issues Stop Work Orders for violations. Writes informational reports. Serves as key lead in the field and office. Prepares and/or changes orders and monthly construction pay estimates. May provide leadership, work assignments, evaluation, training, and guidance to others.
