About The Position

The Inspector Apprentice role is responsible for verifying vehicle information against work orders, identifying any damage, missing parts, or mechanical problems by thoroughly inspecting customer vehicles upon receipt. This includes interior, exterior, odometer reading, trunk area, and engine compartment checks. The role also involves preparing and completing necessary documentation, setting up and performing day-end procedures, and maintaining knowledge of all policies and procedures. A key part of the job is writing electronic condition reports (ECR) and conducting courtesy walk-around inspections. The apprentice will also maintain knowledge of system capabilities, relevant software, and web-based applications, as well as stay updated on improvements and changes in body mechanical, frame labor, and inspection techniques. A strong commitment to safety is essential, demonstrated by following all safety and health procedures and actively participating in safety initiatives. Other duties may be assigned by management, and overtime may be required based on business needs.

Requirements

  • Minimum: High school diploma or GED required.
  • Generally, less than 2 years of experience.
  • Safe driver's needed; valid driver's license required.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required.

Nice To Haves

  • Strong technical understanding, with good organizational skills needed.
  • Ability to multitask, follow directions and take instruction.
  • Advanced computer skills.

Responsibilities

  • Verify vehicle information based on work order information – identify damage, missing parts, and mechanical problems by inspecting all customer vehicles at time of receipt (i.e., interior, exterior, odometer reading, trunk area, engine compartment), noting any damage or repair to frame/paint, engine noise, AC/heater operation, radio, tire condition, etc.
  • Prepare and complete all necessary documentation.
  • Set up system for day-end; perform day-end procedures.
  • Maintain knowledge to ensure all policies and procedures are followed.
  • Write electronic condition reports (ECR).
  • Conduct OVE courtesy walk around inspections.
  • Maintain knowledge of system capabilities, knowledge of needed/job-relevant software packages, and web-based applications.
  • Maintain a working knowledge on improvements and changes concerning body mechanical, frame labor, inspection techniques, etc.
  • Visibly demonstrate safety commitment by following all safety and health procedures and modeling the behaviors related to such.
  • Actively participate in support of all safety activities aligned with Safety Excellence.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.
  • May be required to work overtime as business needs dictate.
