About The Position

The Inspector Apprentice role involves verifying vehicle information against work orders, identifying any damage, missing parts, or mechanical issues through thorough inspections of customer vehicles. This includes checking the interior, exterior, odometer, trunk, and engine compartment, and noting any damage to the frame or paint, engine noise, AC/heater operation, radio functionality, and tire condition. The role also requires preparing and completing necessary documentation, setting up and performing day-end system procedures, and maintaining knowledge of all policies and procedures. Additionally, the apprentice will write electronic condition reports (ECR), conduct OVE courtesy walk-around inspections, and stay updated on system capabilities, relevant software, and web-based applications. A key aspect of the role is maintaining knowledge of improvements and changes related to body mechanics, frame labor, and inspection techniques. The position emphasizes a visible commitment to safety by adhering to all safety and health procedures and actively participating in safety initiatives. Other duties may be assigned by management, and overtime may be required based on business needs.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Generally, less than 2 years of experience.
  • Safe driver's needed; valid driver's license required.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required.

  • Ability to multitask, follow directions and take instruction.
  • Advanced computer skills.
  • Ability to stand, walk, or sit for prolonged periods of time; ability to bend, stoop, squat or kneel; ability to lift and hold at least 10lbs at waist level for an extended period of-time; ability to lift-up to 30 lbs.

Responsibilities

  • Verify vehicle information based on work order information – identify damage, missing parts, and mechanical problems by inspecting all customer vehicles at time of receipt (i.e., interior, exterior, odometer reading, trunk area, engine compartment), noting any damage or repair to frame/paint, engine noise, AC/heater operation, radio, tire condition, etc.
  • Prepare and complete all necessary documentation.
  • Set up system for day-end; perform day-end procedures.
  • Maintain knowledge to ensure all policies and procedures are followed.
  • Write electronic condition reports (ECR).
  • Conduct OVE courtesy walk around inspections.
  • Maintain knowledge of system capabilities, knowledge of needed/job-relevant software packages, and web-based applications.
  • Maintain a working knowledge on improvements and changes concerning body mechanical, frame labor, inspection techniques, etc.
  • Visibly demonstrate safety commitment by following all safety and health procedures and modeling the behaviors related to such. Actively participate in support of all safety activities aligned with Safety Excellence.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.
  • May be required to work overtime as business needs dictate.
