About The Position
Part Lead, Inspection Engineering - Electrode plays a pivotal role in leading and developing the inspection engineering team within the Electrode Department. This position combines strong technical expertise with leadership excellence to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality operation of electrode manufacturing processes and in-line inspection systems in a highly automated, precision environment. The Part Lead oversees all inspection engineering activities, driving process stability, performance, and continuous improvement through data-driven problem solving, AI integration and cross-functional collaboration. The ideal candidate builds a capable, engaged, and accountable team focused on achieving Ultium’s performance targets in safety, quality, cost, delivery, and morale – delivering world-class results in lithium-ion electrode manufacturing.
Requirements
- Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Computer, or Industrial Engineering (or related field).
- 5+ years of experience in high-volume manufacturing; lithium-ion battery or electrode process experience preferred.
- Proven leadership experience managing engineers or technical professionals in a production setting.
- Strong technical foundation in materials behavior, roll-to-roll processes, machine vision, and process optimization.
- Proficient in DOE, SPC, PFMEA, and structured problem-solving methodologies.
- Familiarity with AI/ML concepts, machine vision software, and data analytics tools (e.g, Python, SQL, Spotfire, Power BI) is a strong plus.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; able to lead cross-functional initiatives.
- Comfortable working in a 24/7 production environment and responding to operational needs.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the Electrode part Inspection team, including training, performance management, and technical development. (e.g., mentoring Vision Specialists)
- Set clear priorities and align engineering resources to meet production and inspection accuracy, and strategic goals.
- Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous learning.
- Executing plans and strategies to achieve organizational objectives of electrode process inspection and loss minimization (Mixing, Coating, Roll Press, N&D).
- Ensure stable, safe, and efficient operation of electrode inspection systems through robust process control, proactive anomaly detection, and troubleshooting.
- Own and drive key performance metrics such as Yield, OEE, Throughput, Inspection Accuracy, and Scrap Rate.
- Lead structured problem-solving (5-Why, Fishbone, DMAIC) and implement sustainable corrective actions.
- Collaborate with Equipment, Quality, IT and Maintenance teams to minimize downtime and improve process capability.
- Support development and execution of daily/weekly/monthly operational reviews and KPI reporting.
- Identify and lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance process capability, productivity, cost efficiency and AI-driven inspection solutions.
- Utilize DOE, SPC, and statistical analysis, and data analytics to drive measurable performance improvements.
- Lead engineering change management and ensure documentation, SOPs, and control plans are properly maintained.
- Partner with Process Development and OEM teams to support scaling and validation of new materials, equipment, or vision technologies.
- Maintain a zero-incident culture through proactive safety leadership and risk assessment.
- Ensure compliance with all environmental, health, and safety policies and standards.
- Drive 5S3R practices to sustain a clean, organized, and efficient production area.
