SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES: Seeking an Insolvency/Commercial Bankruptcy Paralegal to provide assistance to attorneys/trustees in fact investigation, legal research, document preparation and production, database management, docketing/case management, and overall client service. This position will be focused on commercial bankruptcy matters and the ideal applicant will demonstrate deep expertise in commercial bankruptcy.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience working directly with commercial bankruptcy attorneys in a law firm or similar professional setting.
  • Associate’s degree required; Bachelor’s degree or Paralegal Certificate preferred.
  • Significant, substantive legal related experience may be considered in lieu of formal education at the discretion of the SBU Managing Director.

Responsibilities

  • Provide substantial assistance in preparing Chapter 11 commercial bankruptcy cases; assistance with preparing for first-day hearings including pleading preparation, noticing, and preparation of related PowerPoints and demonstratives.
  • Learn/develop technical proficiency in database use and management; internet/electronic research; and project folder/electronic file maintenance.
  • Assist with drafting, processing, and filing bankruptcy-related documents.
  • Obtain credit reports and assist with writing Proofs of Claim.
  • Review case documents regularly to ensure accuracy and completion.
  • Assist in preparation of hearing notebooks containing relevant materials including motion/application, notice, order and exhibits.
  • Assist with mailings in bankruptcy cases as required.
  • Attend and participate in internal CLEs.
  • Anticipate attorney needs.
  • Serve as a mentor to a Paralegal Assistant, or more junior Paralegal, as needed.
  • Stay informed of developments in Paralegal industry.
  • Familiarity and experience with adopting legal AI and ability to learn and implement new AI
  • Meet annual billable hour target of 1,500.
  • Perform other duties as required.
