Early Access: Your benefits start after just 30 days of employment We’re looking for a Customer Service & Sales Representative to join our team in a role that balances high-energy customer interaction with meaningful operational support. If you enjoy solving problems and building relationships in a dynamic, industrial environment, we want to meet you! An Inside Sales Representative with VMI Tech will partner with customers to provide industrial, medical and specialty gases, welding equipment, power and hand tools, paint and other supplies. Supports and guides customers on tools, hardware, and materials that would be beneficial, and the process to follow to reach the goals our customers want to achieve. May assist the branch with customer deliveries using company vehicles by contributing to the team through the following.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or the equivalent; ideally, you bring five years of related experience and/or training, or a combination of education and experience that has prepared you for this role.
  • Ideally, you bring two to five years of experience in an industrial retail, inside sales, customer service, and/or inventory control related environment.
  • Requires excellent driving skills and a valid driver's license from the state of residence.
  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Must be able to operate in a drug-free workplace.
  • Comfort operating in a drug-free workplace.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with SAP or similar systems is a plus.
  • We value intermediate skills in the Google Platform.
  • At least one year of familiarity with arc and gas welding.
  • Demonstrated success in managing a dynamic flow of paperwork accurately and on time, often with self-directed initiative.
  • Ability to build alignment and communicate clearly by phone, email, or in person with customers and the broader branch team.
  • Flexibility to contribute occasional overtime when supporting deliveries or colleagues in the branch.
  • Exposure to industrial elements (noise, vibrations, equipment) is part of our daily landscape.

Responsibilities

  • Committed to adherence to company policies including safety and the use of personal protective equipment.
  • Offers supportive customer service to internal and external customers.
  • Supports the accuracy of all required paperwork, including coding, costing, and pricing.
  • Guides and assists customers on tools, hardware, and materials, and any helpful procedures to follow to reach the goals customers wish to achieve.
  • Facilitates orders in the SAP system including, cash and charge orders. May assist with reconciliation of cash and bank deposits.
  • Builds alignment by phone, e-mail and in person with customers, sales staff, store managers and others, providing clear information on cost, ordering and delivery times.
  • Creates thoughtful outreach plans to support sales growth for the branch.
  • May facilitate the movement of merchandise requested by customers to and from other locations.
  • Provides clarity and solutions concerning locations, prices and use of merchandise.
  • Carefully manages total price and tax on merchandise purchased by customers using computer, calculator and/or paper and pencil to prepare an invoice. Accepts payment and makes change for customer purchases. Wraps or bags merchandise for customers and assists in loading and unloading cylinders outside the storeroom.
