About The Position

This position supports Mercy's philosophy of patient centered care by the ARNP (Nurse Practitioner) who assists with clinical care, education and direction in the appropriate area(s). The ARNP works in collaboration with a physician and other team members to provide care to patients and their families. This role completes psychiatric diagnostic evaluations and treatment planning in an inpatient psychiatric setting, provides medication management services, and participates in formal and informal education to promote awareness of mental health issues and current best practices. The position also works in collaboration with the Emergency Department team members and Outpatient Psychiatry.

Requirements

  • Currently licensed to practice as an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner in the state of Iowa required.
  • Iowa Dependent Adult Abuse & Iowa Child Abuse Mandatory Reporter training required. Employee must submit certification of completed training to Human Resources prior to start or transfer date.
  • Education sufficient to obtain required licensure.
  • Experience in the evaluation and management of patients in specialty area.
  • Ability to apply critical analytic thought to patient care.
  • Ability to assist physicians and nursing staff with all procedures.
  • Strong leadership qualities.
  • Exceptional communication skills.

  • Iowa Child Abuse Mandatory Reporter training not required for Care Connections or Geriatric Providers departments.

Responsibilities

  • Performs and documents complete, system-focused, and/or symptom specific physical and psychosocial examination.
  • Manages diagnostic tests through ordering, performing, interpreting, and supervising in the assessment process.
  • Prescribes pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic interventions in collaboration with the supervising physician.
  • Assists with the management of the plan of care through the evaluation, modification, and documentation according to the patient's response to therapy, change in condition, and to therapeutic interventions to optimize patient outcomes.
  • Assesses the needs of families and caregivers.
  • Synthesizes data from a variety of sources to make clinical judgments and decisions about appropriate recommendations and treatments.
  • Initiates appropriate referrals and performs consultations.
  • Demonstrates leadership of the health care team through teaching, coaching, and supporting to advance plan of care.
  • Maintains current knowledge regarding state and federal regulations impacting ARNP practice.
  • Follows Mercy's safety guidelines, carries out job-specific safety duties and responsibilities, and promptly reports any unsafe conditions, situations, incidents and injuries.
  • Completes psychiatric diagnostic evaluations and treatment planning in inpatient psychiatric setting.
  • Provides medication management services.
  • Provides pharmacological management, including prescription, use, and review of medication to patients in the inpatient setting.
  • Participates in formal and informal education provided to other health professionals and the general public to promote awareness of mental health issues and current best practices.
  • Works in collaboration with the Emergency Department team members and Outpatient Psychiatry.
