About The Position

Working collaboratively as a member of the multidisciplinary treatment team, the Inpatient Psychiatric Counselor provides individual and group interventions under the direct supervision of a licensed occupational therapist in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in Psychology, Counseling or other health-related field; Bachelor degree preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum 1-2 years of direct clinical experience working in mental health settings, including the provision of group and individual patient activities.
  • Current BLS/CPR certification required within one month of hire.
  • YNHPH Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) initial certification and annual recertification required. Initial certification must be completed within probationary period of employment.
  • Basic computer skills required for data entry, email, smart web paging, mobile heartbeat (MHB) and ability to access the electronic medical record.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment, communicate and effectively deal with complex affective-charged situations and possess group facilitation and crisis management skills.
  • Able to lift at least 25lbs.; must comply with appropriate OSHA, HIPAA and JCAHO standards relevant to position.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with specialized populations such as emotionally dysregulated adults and adolescents is preferred.
