This role involves reviewing and processing departmental order requests, preparing and distributing medications to patient care units, and managing medication inventory. The technician will also be responsible for ordering medications from suppliers, preparing parenteral products, and maintaining medication inventory by stocking, checking expiration dates, and processing returns. Additionally, the position includes training and orienting new pharmacy support personnel, handling billing and other non-pharmacist duties, and maintaining appropriate records and regulatory documentation. The technician will also pre-package and label bulk medications, answer the telephone, and direct calls appropriately while diverting medication/clinical inquiries to a pharmacist. A key aspect of the role is providing service excellence to all patients and staff. Additional duties include obtaining patient medication orders for reconciliation and preparing chemotherapy and dosage calculations. This is a Grade FHS7A position, Job Code 00030.
