About The Position

Under the supervision of a pharmacist, the Inpatient Pharmacy Technician supports the pharmacy department in various areas including inventory management, medication preparation and distribution, compounding, processing of medications and supplies, specialty medications, and medication histories.

Requirements

• High School Diploma/GED is required.
• Requires Indiana Pharmacy Tech-In Training OR Indiana Pharmacy Technician License OR intern/extern license if enrolled in accredited college of pharmacy.
• Requires Pharmacy Technician National Certification within one year of hire unless enrolled in accredited college of pharmacy or enrolled in or graduated from an ASHP/ACPE accredited Pharmacy Technician training program.
• Requires the absence of criminal history related to the ability to work with drugs.
• Requires strong mathematical calculation skills.
• Requires ability to learn basic pharmacy technician skills in assigned areas and work under close supervision or under clearly defined procedures.
• Requires ability to learn effective written and communication skills.
• Requires ability to learn and execute customer services skills.
• Requires basic proficiency typing and using Microsoft office applications.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and dispense medication orders under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
• Ensure accuracy in dosage, labeling, and packaging requirements.
• Deliver medications to various hospital units and ensure timely and accurate distribution.
• Manage inventory levels and ensure quality control of all medications and medical supplies.
• Handle supplies, stock prepackaged items, maintain inventory, and deliver supplies.
• Assist in bulk compounding and preparation of IV solutions, including hazardous and chemotherapeutic medications.
• Assist in the medication reconciliation process by obtaining and verifying patient medication histories.
• Maintain accuracy with various medication records.
• Adhere to all hospital and pharmacy laws and regulations, as well as company policies and procedures.
• Ensure compliance with all regulatory standards.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and maintain a clean and organized work environment.
• Assist in the training and supervision of pharmacy interns and new hires.
• Assist in the development and implementation of pharmacy policies and procedures.
• Provide excellent customer service by answering questions and assisting with medication orders.
• Work with pharmacy staff to minimize the potential for medication errors.
