Wellstar is seeking an Inpatient Pharmacy Technician to join their team. This role involves preparing, compounding, and dispensing medications under the direct supervision of a Pharmacist. The technician must demonstrate proficiency in all responsibilities and duties of a certified pharmacy technician and maintain competency through supervised observation and annual required competencies. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • PHT - Registered Pharmacy Tech or CPHT - Cert Pharmacy Tech or PHARMINT - Pharmacist - Intern
  • Licensed and in good standing with the Georgia State Board of Pharmacy.
  • Hospital pharmacy experience
  • General experience in all phases of pharmacy operations including basic knowledge of automated dispensing cabinets, inventory management, medication order interpretation, and Ga. Pharmacy law.

  • Ability to lift a minimum of 30 pounds.
  • Ability to push a transportation cart of approximately 100 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare medications and/or IVs for dispensing, ensuring correct medication, strength, and form, then labeling and initializing for pharmacist verification.
  • Fill multiple patient-specific medications in accordance with department procedure.
  • Securely deliver bulk fills, first doses, and missing doses to appropriate units while maintaining patient confidentiality.
  • Properly generate labels, fill, and have checked by a pharmacist for missing doses, then dispense to the appropriate floor or unit.
  • Properly prepare, measure, and count medications, including compounding ointments, creams, oral solutions, oral solids, and IVs.
  • Accurately add new users to the Automatic Dispensing Cabinet (ADC) system.
  • Properly load the ADC with correct medications after pharmacist verification.
  • Monitor ADC par levels and adjust as needed.
  • Generate needed reports to fill, track, and identify/report all discrepancies.
  • Troubleshoot minor problems with the ADC.
  • Accurately fill medication, fluids, and stock outs as needed for the ADC.
  • Assist the pharmacist and inventory specialist in retrieving recalled medications.
  • Follow all policies, procedures, and applicable laws with controlled substance medications.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of aseptic technique, including proper hand washing and IV Room attire, and comply with Joint Commission, hospital, and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Complete an aseptic technique competency to show compliance with USP standards.
  • Prepare small volume admixtures, specialty solutions (epidural, intrathecal, intravenous, intramuscular, sterile syringes, and chemotherapy when applicable), neonatal syringes (when applicable), and large volume solutions.
  • Follow policies and procedures regarding maintaining a clean IV room environment.
  • Follow all safety and compliance standards for safely compounding medications and ensure United States Pharmacopeia requirements and procedures are met.
  • Accurately label all repackaged items per Georgia Board of Pharmacy Rules and Regulations.
  • Provide customer service to customers and other healthcare professionals via in-person or virtual means.
  • Process charges, including late charges, supplemental, OR charges, nuclear, and exception reports.
  • Order supplies and obtain purchase orders using the appropriate ordering system.
  • Distribute and account for Controlled Substance Medications.
  • Restock code carts and other kits returned to the pharmacy according to departmental procedure and ensure required inspections are completed.
  • Perform monthly unit and pharmacy inspections, ensuring assigned pharmacy or medication area is clean, including temperature and humidity monitoring.
  • Perform out-of-date tracking on medications in various locations of the facility.
  • Train and mentor pharmacy technicians under the lead pharmacy technician.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
