The Inpatient Pharmacy Technician assists licensed pharmacists in technical duties related to the preparation and distribution of medications. This role involves accurately selecting, preparing, and labeling medications, including hazardous drugs and controlled substances. The technician will also assist with medication distribution tasks, screen phone calls, and manage daily pharmacy procurement, inventory control, and outdate checking. Responsibilities include documenting the handling of controlled substances, performing nonsterile compounding and sterile IV admixture following USP standards where applicable, and inspecting medication storage areas. The role may also involve completing medication admission histories, assisting in training other technicians, and supporting area leaders. Additionally, the technician will handle patient demographic information, data entry, insurance verification, label generation, and cashiering. Developing competence in third-party billing functions and potentially obtaining immunization certification are also part of the role. A unique aspect of this position is the responsibility for operating an Advocate Health-owned motor vehicle to deliver medications and medical supplies between pharmacy locations.
