About The Position

Be a part of a world-class academic healthcare system, Ingalls Memorial, as an Inpatient Pharmacy Manager in the Inpatient Pharmacy. This position assumes primary responsibility for the operations of the Ingalls Pharmacy. The Pharmacy Manager sets and models the standard for excellence for pharmacy practice and designs pharmacy programs to collaboratively advance the Comprehensive Pharmacy Practice model. The Inpatient Pharmacy Manager provides direction to the clinical pharmacy staff at the Ingalls Memorial Hospital and supervises the operational activities of the staff pharmacists throughout the Ingalls Inpatient and Infusion pharmacies. Provides guidance for the development and implementation of new programs and services within the Department of Pharmaceutical Services and works collaboratively with other pharmacy leadership members to provide pharmacy services to all patients at IMH.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5-7 years of experience as a leader in Pharmacy practice required.
  • Graduate of an ACPE accredited School of Pharmacy
  • Doctor of Pharmacy or another advanced degree required.
  • Must be eligible for licensure as a pharmacist in the state of Illinois (or able to complete licensure process within 60 days of employment).
  • Recognized leadership ability and excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of and proficiency with general hospital operations and regulatory compliance
  • Knowledge of computers (word processing etc.), technology, and automation systems.
  • Able to effectively plan, prioritize, delegate and coordinate activities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to interact constructively with members of a culturally diverse practice environment including supervisors, peers, support personnel, health care practitioners and patients.
  • Knowledge and understanding of state and federal laws and regulations governing pharmacy practice in the hospital and outpatient ambulatory settings.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum 3-5 years of pharmacy management experience highly preferred
  • MHA, MBA, Masters of Science, or other advanced degree preferred.
  • Completion of an ASHP accredited PGY-1 Pharmacy Practice, PGY-2 Specialty Pharmacy, or PGY-2 Health-System Pharmacy Administration residency highly desired.

Responsibilities

  • Manages all patient care and operational activities for the staff pharmacists, technicians and APTs
  • Accountable for the financial performance and budgetary adherence of their areas.
  • Actively manage human, capital, and operational resources to support patient care services, medication safety systems, regulatory compliance initiatives, and quality assurance programs.
  • Collaborate with management peers to support all pharmacy operational areas, including central dispensing pharmacies, and Infusion Pharmacies.
  • Collaboratively oversee the utilization of pharmacy automation and medication dispensing technology within their assigned areas.
  • Assists in the development of goals for the department and work with other managers and key individuals such as physicians, nurses, and other hospital personnel to facilitate the accomplishment of these goals.
  • Assume responsibility for leading pharmacy education and practice advancement activities. They actively identify practice related issues which require evaluation and facilitate research projects, quality improvement initiatives, or healthcare provider education as needed to advance practice.
  • Assumes primary responsibility for response to and resolution of problems or complaints from patients and staff Develops statistical reports and activity summaries required for all ongoing management and activities of the Pharmacy as needed.
  • Maintain competent staff by coordinating training for new employees, coaching and mentoring of all employees, and routine communication to staff.
  • Leads recruitment, interview, and hiring processes for staff in assigned areas.
  • Manages staff schedules, vacation requests and overall department’s staffing.
