About The Position

The Pharmacist ensures the overall integrity, safety, rationality, and effectiveness of the drug use control process for all patients in the assigned geographic or specialty area, including the following patient groups: Neonates, Pediatrics, Adolescents, Adults, and Geriatrics. The role involves monitoring, screening, and verifying drug orders for dosage, route, form, and schedule, and ensuring expedited preparation and dispensing. Responsibilities include resolving drug therapy problems, clarifying orders, assigning tasks to technicians, counseling patients on medication use, and addressing equipment and operational issues. The position requires availability for evenings, nights, and weekends, and serves all age-specific groups.

Requirements

  • Current licensure with the Virginia State Board of Pharmacy required or obtained within the first 90 days of employment.
  • Bachelors of Science in Pharmacy from an accredited academic program.
  • Must be available to work evenings, nights and weekends.
  • Lifting 20-50 lbs.

  • Minimum of one (1) year of pharmacy practice experience in a similar setting.
  • Previous experience with state of the art drug distribution and clinical service methods and drug information sources and retrieval and communication methods.
  • Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) from an accredited academic program.

Responsibilities

  • Monitors, screens, and verifies all drug-related orders for assurance of proper dosage, route, dosage form, and administration schedule.
  • Ensures expedited preparation and dispensing of all dosage forms by pharmacy personnel.
  • Resolves drug therapy problems.
  • Clarifies and corrects problematic drug orders.
  • Designates pharmacy technicians to perform special assignments.
  • Counsels patients regarding the safe and proper use of their medications.
  • Resolves equipment and operational problems.
