About The Position

Join a multifaceted team that covers new baby care in a growing obstetrics program. The Advanced Practice Practitioner (APP) will be trained to cover all aspects of the nursery team, including inpatient care and home call. This part-time position is a 1040-hour part-time equivalent to four (4) 10-hour per two-week period. The APP will provide diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventive health care services to critically ill patients. This includes obtaining medical histories, examining patients, daily rounds, ordering and interpreting tests, making initial diagnoses, and ordering treatments. The role requires effective communication with attending physicians, other medical teams, team members, and patients and their families. The APP will administer therapeutic and advanced procedures as noted in the Delineation of Privileges, such as performing circumcisions, and will educate, counsel, and address patient’s parents on pertinent issues. The role also involves participating in APP Council meetings, service line specific and general APP meetings and events, and organizational meetings and events. Engagement in leadership activities, including APP representation on organizational committees, training, education, and mentorship of other APPs and learners, is expected. The APP will also participate in educational and other learning opportunities as they arise.

Requirements

  • Perform routine and expanded job descriptions as listed in the provider's collaboration agreement on file with the Maryland Board of Physicians or Maryland Board of Nursing.
  • Highly effective verbal and written communication skills are required to interact with patient families, departmental units, medical and nursing staff on all essential matters.
  • Ability to handle and triage multiple priorities, work independently, take initiative in achieving expected results, and handle confidential information.
  • Demonstrate competence and skill in required tasks and procedures.
  • Demonstrate skills in making effective decisions, quality improvement activities, problem solving, crisis management, organizing work and meeting deadlines, attention to detail and follow through, resource management, ability to work successfully with diverse types of individuals including management, clinical staff, and the public.
  • Bachelor’s degree, RN experience, and completion of Acute Nurse Practitioner degree.
  • Hold an active Maryland license through the Maryland Board of Nursing.
  • Credentialing must be obtained from UM Capital Region Health’s Medical Staff Office.
  • Maintenance of BLS certification is required.

Nice To Haves

  • One year of nursery or pediatric experience is preferred.
  • NRP preferred.

Responsibilities
