About The Position

The Inpatient Medical Record Coder is responsible for the timely review and completion of all discharged patient records. This includes identifying appropriate ICD-10-CM/CPT codes to accurately reflect the patient's stay. The coder also ensures all data elements required for federal and state reporting are collected, and that coded data facilitates the billing process by assigning APC/MS DRG.

Requirements

• High school diploma or College degree equivalent.
• 2-3 years coding experience in an acute care facility.
• Ability to look at computer CRT most of the day and must be computer knowledgeable.
• Excellent command of the English language, both oral and written.
• Must be organized.
• Ability to effectively communicate (verbally and in writing) in English.
• Ability to write legibly (Clinical Areas).

Nice To Haves

• Certification preferred.
• Orientation and training under supervision of Director and Coding Manager until competency is observed.
• Requires eye hand coordination with good manual dexterity.
• Requires frequent but limited contact with physicians.
• RHIA, RHIT, or CCS preferred.
• Additional languages desirable.
