About The Position

The Allina Health Cancer Institute (AHCI) is hiring an inpatient Hematology/Oncology Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) to join our established oncology team in Minneapolis, MN. This is a 1.0 FTE position, Monday-Friday business hours, with flexibility for .8-1.0 FTE. The role will manage solid tumor and hematology patients and is located at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis. The team includes Hematologist/Oncologists and Advanced Practice Providers. Inpatient rounding every 6th weekend is part of the responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Master's degree - Completion of accredited Nurse Practitioner program or Physician Assistant program
  • Licensed Registered Nurse - MN Board of Nursing required upon hire (NP)
  • Certified Nurse Practitioner - American Nurse Credentialing Center (ANCC) certification within specialty or Certified Physician Assistant (NCCPA) - National Commission Certification of Physician Assistants within specialty required upon hire.
  • MN NP/PA license required upon hire.
  • Drug Enforcement Administration required upon hire.

Nice To Haves

  • New Graduates may be considered.
  • Prefer a minimum 2 years of experience in Oncology.

Responsibilities

  • Provides clinical care for patients
  • Completes comprehensive patient assessments.
  • Determines diagnosis and treatment of illness.
  • Orders and interprets medical diagnostics in tandem with attending physician.
  • Prescribes medications, treatments, therapy and medical equipment.
  • Conducts patient education when working to manage chronic illness or wellness care.
  • Refers for specialty care when determined.
  • Consults with physician when patient needs outside of Nurse Practitioner scope of practice, diagnosis or treatment plan is unclear.
  • Promotes communication within the team and other interdisciplinary health care staff.
  • Acts as resource to members of the team.
  • Works with primary care team for program development.
  • Acts as liaison with outside agencies as needed.
  • Collaborates with hospital staff by consulting and rounding on patients if designated by the specialty.
  • Other duties as assigned.
