About The Position

The Department of Psychiatry at Tufts Medical Center is seeking an outstanding Academic Geriatric Psychiatrist to join its faculty at the new Tufts Medicine Behavioral Health Hospital (TMBHH) in Malden, Massachusetts. This state-of-the-art 144-bed behavioral health hospital is a partnership between Tufts Medicine and Acadia Healthcare, designed to transform behavioral healthcare delivery and serve as a primary teaching hospital. This role offers a unique opportunity to help build a premier academic geriatric psychiatry program focused on older adults with complex psychiatric illnesses, dementia, behavioral disturbances, and co-occurring medical conditions within a collaborative academic environment. The department is dedicated to redefining behavioral healthcare through exceptional clinical care, innovative education, and transformative research.

Requirements

  • MD or DO from an accredited medical school.
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Psychiatry.
  • Eligible for unrestricted medical licensure in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
  • DEA registration (or eligibility).
  • Demonstrated commitment to compassionate, patient-centered care.
  • Interest in interdisciplinary collaboration, teaching, and academic medicine.
  • CPR certification and de-escalation/restraint training (training provided upon hire as needed).

Nice To Haves

  • ABPN Added Qualification (Subspecialty Certification) in Geriatric Psychiatry preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive psychiatric evaluation and treatment for older adults admitted to the 48-bed inpatient geriatric psychiatry service.
  • Help lead the continued clinical development, quality improvement, and future growth of the inpatient geriatric psychiatry program.
  • Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary colleagues including psychiatry, neurology, geriatric medicine, neuropsychology, nursing, psychology, pharmacy, rehabilitation therapies, and social work.
  • Teach and mentor medical students, psychiatry residents, geriatric psychiatry fellows, psychology trainees, and other interdisciplinary learners.
  • Participate in curriculum development and educational innovation.
  • Collaborate with faculty engaged in clinical, translational, and health services research.
  • Pursue scholarly activities in areas including dementia, behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD), neuropsychiatry, neuromodulation (including ECT), delirium, late-life depression, health services research, and Alzheimer's disease therapeutics.
  • Develop academic interests with mentorship and opportunities for promotion through Tufts University School of Medicine.
