Requirements

  • Listed as a CNA with DHSR, as evidence by successfully completed training and has not had a lapse of 24 consecutive months where the aid has not provided services for compensation
  • High School diploma or GED preferred
  • Must be physically competent to perform delegated tasks necessary to good patient care and as indicated inpatient's plan of care
  • Must be dependable and capable of dealing pleasantly and tactfully with patient, family, staff and the public
  • Experience preferred
  • Qualification for NA II
  • Certified Nursing Assistant II currently listed with the North Carolina Board of Nursing

Responsibilities

  • Abides by and supports 3HC's Compliance Program and Code of Ethics.
  • Creates positive experiences for internal and external customers.
  • Administers personal care and hygiene by following established care plan; provides or assists patient in bathing, hair care, shaving, oral hygiene, toileting and dressing; assist in feeding the patient when necessary; provides and/or assists patient with simple range-of-motion exercise, transferring, turning and walking.
  • Assists with treatments and procedures, including changing dry dressings, measuring intake and output, administering disposable enemas, taking and recording vital signs and weights, applying TED hose, collecting urine specimens, and applying hot/cold compresses.
  • For NA II: sterile dressing changes for wound > 48 hours old, wound irrigations for wounds >48 hours old, urinary catheterization and irrigations of catheters, ostomy care and irrigation of ostomies, suctioning-oropharyngeal and nasopharyngeal, Trach care, O2 therapy maintenance, removal of fecal impactions, adding internal feedings to existing infusion, administration of G-tube feedings, clamping feeding tubes, discontinuing oral/gastric or naso/gastric feeding tubes, IV fluids-assistive devices, IV fluids - observation of flow rate, discontinue peripheral IV infusions, and finger stick for blood glucose testing.
  • Acts as a facilities preceptor for new employees, demonstrating and teaching inpatient facility procedures, observing for accuracy, demonstrating documentation using EMR, observing and educating on proper NA skills, and ensuring new employees know facility layouts.
  • Immediately reports and records changes in the patient's mental or physical condition to supervisor.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in donning/doffing PPE and verbalizes knowledge of circumstances demanding PPE.
  • Completes document via EMR each shift, checks all outstanding tasks, and completes prior to end shift. Uses the time clock consistently and submits other data to supervisor as requested.
  • Completes housekeeping tasks including tidying bedroom, mopping floor, cleaning the patient's bathroom, shower, toilet, and sink as needed. Changes patient's bed linens and performs other tasks as needed or assigned.
  • Works assigned shifts and holidays as scheduled.
  • Employs Hoyer lift for movement/care of bariatric patients.
  • Demonstrates an interest in personal and professional growth for self and staff by attending and participating in workshops, seminars, webcasts, and individual reading and research.
  • Demonstrates a willingness to be cost effective in the use of agency resources, monitoring of waste, and the proper and safe use of supplies and equipment.
  • Adheres to 3HC's Personnel Policy and performs other appropriate duties as assigned by supervisor.
