The Inpatient Dietitian assesses and monitors the nutritional status of patients and clients, adjusting nutritional care as indicated. They provide medical nutrition therapy (MNT)/counseling, including assessment and education, and develop, monitor, and implement MNT/counseling for patients/clients in assigned areas. The role involves completing consults and referrals, communicating with physicians and nurses to coordinate nutrition into the total patient care program, and completing all required documentation in a timely and thorough manner. The dietitian is also responsible for providing and assessing the effectiveness of patient/client and family education, developing and utilizing appropriate educational materials, and identifying learning needs. Additionally, they provide periodic in-services on selected topics, participate in basic skills orientation and training of team members and dietetic interns, and teach and disseminate nutrition research findings. Communication with multidisciplinary departments is key to ensuring standards of excellence for customer satisfaction.
