About The Position

Stillwater Hospice is seeking a Certified Nurses Aide (CNA) to provide safe personal care and support for terminally ill patients in the hospice facility. This full-time position involves working 36 hours per week, including one afternoon shift and every Thursday and Friday night shift, with 12-hour shifts. The role emphasizes teamwork, work-life balance, and compassionate care within a positive environment. The compensation is based on total years of experience in previous clinical roles.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Completion of 105 hours CNA Certification program (need copy of Certificate).
  • Current/active CNA License.
  • Minimum six (6) months (one [1] year preferred) CNA/HHA experience, within the last twenty-four (24) months, in the home health, long-term care, or hospital setting.
  • RN nursing students who have successfully completed courses with a grade of “C” or better, who currently possess an active CNA License, will be said to have met the above qualifications.
  • Must hold current CPR certification or obtain within the orientation period.
  • Must be able to safely perform the essential functions of the job without posing a direct threat to the health and/or safety of self or others in the workplace.
  • Must have a current motor vehicle operator’s license and have access to an automobile with current automobile insurance coverage.
  • For Home Care, must be able to drive independently to all patients', families', and clients’ homes.
  • Must be able to climb a minimum of three (3) flights of stairs.
  • Recognizes emergencies and has knowledge of emergency procedures according to agency policy.
  • Must have the ability to remain calm in occasional emergency situations.
  • Must be willing to travel in inclement weather.
  • Must be willing to accept assignments without regard to disease or ethnic origin.
  • Must exhibit dependability in areas such as attendance, tardiness, and flexibility for unit coverage.
  • Must be willing to work the scheduled holiday rotation.

Nice To Haves

  • One [1] year preferred CNA/HHA experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provide safe personal care and support for the terminally ill in the hospice facility under the direction of the Patient Care Director and/or RN Case Manager.
  • Give client care per agency policies and procedures, following the written Plan of Care.
  • Perform personal hygiene and grooming, including bed baths, sponge baths, tub baths, or shower baths; shampooing; nail and skin care; oral hygiene; toileting and elimination needs; and changing linens.
  • Assist patients with various rehabilitation activities under the direction of a licensed therapist or RN.
  • Take and record temperature, pulse, respirations, and blood pressure when assigned.
  • Prepare meals and assist patients with feeding.
  • Observe patient’s condition and report significant changes in status to the appropriate nurse.
  • Computer document care per agency policies and procedures.
  • Manage care of assigned patients in a timely fashion.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and healthy environment in the patient care area.
  • Participate in patient care conferences as assigned to promote holistic care.
  • Maintain good personal hygiene and conduct themselves in a polite and professional manner.
  • Maintain a therapeutic relationship with patients, including confidentiality.
  • Maintain respect for the patient's privacy and property.
  • Attend educational opportunities and in-services to improve clinical practice.
  • Be willing to be cross-trained in other departments within the agency.
  • Adhere to all Stillwater Hospice policies and privacy practices.
  • Participate in quality improvement activities and/or other agency committees or task forces when requested.
  • Perform light housekeeping chores.
  • May run errands, on occasion, with supervisor approval.
