About The Position

The Nurse Practitioner is accountable to facilitate a quality hospital experience and outcome for patients within a cost-effective time frame. The Nurse Practitioner I will be responsible to the Medical Director of Hematology/Oncology, APP Lead Supervisor for Hematology/Oncology and responsible for overseeing the progress of a specific caseload of patients across the care continuum to include inpatient admission and post-discharge when feasible. Acts as an educator, consultant, and liaison to healthcare providers caring for the patients across the care continuum. Requirements

  • Licensure as Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island by the Rhode Island Board of Nursing or licensure as a Registered Nurse in accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact agreement of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing
  • Masters of Science Degree, Graduate of accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
  • Specialty certification required.
  • Baccalaureate in Nursing
  • Certified in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS).
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients with consideration of aging processes, human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.
  • Two years related experience as RN in acute care hospital setting
  • All applicants should possess a high level of ability to function with significant clinical autonomy.

Nice To Haves

  • preferred 1-2 years experience as a nurse practitioner.
  • Three to six months on-the-job training to become familiar with job responsibilities and work routines will be required.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates a fundamental grounding in nursing theory and practice with mastery of knowledge within a defined content area.
  • Manages a caseload of patients in partnership with the healthcare team to optimize health status and coordinate care over time and across healthcare settings.
  • Provides leadership in the development, validation, implementation, and evaluation of standards, policies, procedures, and critical paths to support the patient care delivery model.
  • Oversees care coordination in acute, home care, and ambulatory care settings as feasible.
  • Assists the healthcare team to achieve mutually agreed upon healthcare goals by providing necessary support, education and encouragement.
  • Demonstrates advanced physical and psychosocial assessment skills and knowledge of family dynamics.
  • Provides direct care to patients on the inpatient units.
  • Provides care for patients undergoing treatment for hematology malignancies and oncologic malignancies including but not limited to acute myeloid leukemia, autologous stem cell transplant, and Car T cell therapy.
  • Performs advanced practice skills under the supervision of the Medical Director.
  • Provides expert consultation for clinical issues promoting increased knowledge and skills for the consultee.
  • Participates in the education, clinical research and mentoring of healthcare providers.
  • Facilitates patient/family education in area of expertise.
  • Annually completes mandatory safety infection control, BLS, and ACLS/PALS.
  • Prescriptive privileges per licensure.
  • Position includes days, evening, nights, weekends, and holidays providing comprehensive patient care in the inpatient setting.
