About The Position

The Innovative Care Research Coordinator is a translational role that serves as a bridge between clinical and lab-based research within the Department of Neurology's Division of Multiple Sclerosis and Related Disorders. The purpose of this position is to liaise between the clinical and lab research teams, identifying potential candidates for research participation, conducting research visits, and ensuring the seamless flow of biological sample acquisition, data, and communications across translational research collaborations. Research generated from the samples and data collected will form the basis of future investigations into designing and implementing the mechanism of action and biological proof-of-principal of emerging therapies, and development of clinically meaningful bio-markers as part of advancing precision medicine in autoimmune and CNS-inflammatory diseases.

Requirements

  • Strong interpersonal, communication, writing, and analytical skills.
  • Must be detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to navigate multi-layered systems and manage competing priorities.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong PC skills using a range of software programs including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Adobe.
  • A bachelor's degree is required.
  • Availability to work up to twenty-five hours per week is required.
  • The candidate is required to be available to work onsite at the Perelman Center for Advanced Medicine from 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

  • Previous patient-facing experience or lab-based research experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Screen, recruit, and consent research participants to biobank protocols.
  • Conduct research visits in the Penn Neuroscience Center at the Perelman Center for Advanced Medicine.
  • Complete weekly chart review of patients scheduled to be seen in clinic.
  • Abstract clinical data from the electronic medical record of consented participants and enter it into study-related databases.
  • Maintain study records, including completing documentation within the electronic medical record and maintaining study logs and files.
  • Attend three weekly team meetings.
  • Safely transport samples to different locations within the Penn campus.
