About The Position

This position is located in the City Manager’s Office and reports to the Chief Innovation Officer. The Innovation Program Manager I is primarily responsible for facilitating and supporting the development and implementation of innovative research-driven solutions based in data and design.

Requirements

• Possession of a bachelor’s degree in innovation, industrial design, business administration, or in a related field of study.
• Minimum of five (5) years’ design experience, including instructional, strategic, business, and product design, or related experience.
• Minimum of two (2) years’ project management experience.
• Knowledge of design-based innovation methodologies, including determining when and how to use specific approaches, frameworks, deliverables, and facilitation methods.
• Knowledge of and skill in the conceptual and practical application of innovation tools and the role of human-centered design, data, and strategy.
• Knowledge and skill in providing guidance and leadership to organizational leaders.
• Skill in using service design and/or product design to scale initiatives or strategies, particularly in large organizations.
• Skill working with people from diverse backgrounds and engaging with a wide range of residents, subject-matter experts, and partners.
• Skill in managing medium -to-large scale projects in a fast paced, dynamic environment that requires collaboration across groups and levels.
• Skill in maintaining strong attention to detail.
• Skill in verbal and written communication.
• Skill in prioritizing tasks and managing time effectively.

Responsibilities

• Providing guidance to collaborators in government and in the community through a rigorous innovation process, including research, synthesis and framework development, idea generation, prototyping, and testing.
• Designing, planning, and delivering quantitative and qualitative design research.
• Making research findings relevant and impactful through various formats, such as slide decks, stories, videos, experiences, exhibits, and design artifacts like journey maps, service blueprints, and personas.
• Employing researched best practices to create a seamless experience for City leaders and collaborators in government and in the community.
• Developing templates, tools, and methods that the City can use to improve service and program delivery.
• Creating visual frameworks (i.e. journey maps, service blueprints, and ecosystem maps) that clarify complex challenges in human behavior, relationships, workflows, and processes.
• Collaborating with local community organizations dedicated to the City’s priority areas.
• Planning and executing co-creation workshops with stakeholders to propose the most viable solutions to problems.
• Staying up to date with trends in civic design and public innovation and developing materials to spread best practices locally.
• Preparing and presenting reports, summaries, presentations, visuals, recommendations, and other work products to City leaders, community members, and partners.
• Working closely with City partners to plan and develop scope, goals, deliverables, required resources, work plans, and timelines for initiatives.
• Identifying and addressing risks to project progress and success.
• Establishing effective project communication plans and executing them.
• Ensuring timely communication with stakeholders.
• Leading regular team progress and coordination meetings.
• Ensuring the effective and efficient use of human, social, and financial resources.
• Developing and delivering training programs and workshops.
• Performing other duties as assigned.
