About The Position

Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office is seeking a dedicated Inmate Release Coordinator to support individuals transitioning from incarceration back into the community. This vital role is responsible for reviewing all inmate admissions and identifying those with substance use and/or mental health needs, ensuring they are connected with appropriate treatment and support services upon release.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • A minimum of two (2) years’ experience in a setting dealing with substance abuse or mental health issues, preferably in a detention or correctional environment.
  • Must possess a valid Arizona driver’s license.
  • Integrity, honesty, dependability, industry thoroughness, accuracy, good judgment, initiative, and courtesy.
  • Must successfully complete a thorough background investigation to include, but not limited to polygraph, psychological, and physical fitness test.
  • Must successfully complete a minimum six (6) month probation period.
  • Knowledge of goals relating to Service Linkage for inmates suffering from substance abuse and/or mental health disorders.
  • Knowledge of pertinent aspects of a confinement environment.
  • Knowledge of business English, spelling, grammar, punctuation, and composition.
  • Knowledge of clerical office practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of research techniques and report writing.
  • Knowledge of current Microsoft Office software.
  • Knowledge of filing and recordkeeping.
  • Skill in communicating effectively verbally and in writing and communicating orally in a face-to-face setting and by telephone with public and employees.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with employees, other agencies, and the public.
  • Skill in organization and adherence to detail.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to respond flexibly to unexpected demands within a secure environment.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates, employees of other departments, representatives of other organizations, County officials, and the public.
  • Ability to keep management informed of key operating issues affecting the department.
  • Ability to remain current in knowledge required to perform assigned duties.
  • Ability to handle confidential matters and maintain discretion always.
  • Ability to act with courtesy, tact, and diplomacy.

Responsibilities

  • Advocates for inmates regarding substance abuse and/or mental health issues.
  • Reviews all inmate admissions to identify possible disorders.
  • Works cooperatively with inmates and practitioners to identify treatment options.
  • Once identified, individually screens those inmates for service linkage outside the facility. Service linkage will consist of care coordination, access to medication, access to benefits (AHCCCS), peer support, and transitional housing.
  • Interfaces and coordinates with Detention personnel regarding any coordinated release efforts.
  • Partners with community health providers through participation in coalitions; advocates for the development of networks that assists and furthers linking services to inmates incarcerated who are suffering from substance abuse and or mental health disorders.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
