About The Position

The Injection Molding Technician is responsible for setting up injection molding machines, ensuring correct parameters are set for specific parts, and managing the molding process to minimize downtime and ensure quality. This role involves clearing production lines, performing mold cleaning, routine repairs, and preventative maintenance on machinery. The technician will troubleshoot minor molding process issues, adjust and maintain automated equipment, and collaborate with setup technicians, operators, and Plant Leaders. Additionally, the role requires accurate record-keeping, adherence to setup sheets, training new technicians, maintaining good housekeeping, and following all safety guidelines.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent work experience required.
  • Minimum 2 years relevant manufacturing experience in plastic injection molding environment preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years related basic problem solving and processing skills in relation to injection molding and automation equipment.
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Good communication both written and verbal skills.
  • Must possess mechanical aptitude and ability to adapt and learn.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule which includes overtime and weekends.
  • Must have ability to provide their own basic tools (allen wrenches, socket sets, etc.).
  • Must be able to safely operate required equipment for performing job functions.

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to scientific injection molding process monitoring methodology preferred.
  • Understanding of injection molding machine(s) and auxiliary equipment operations and repair preferred.
  • Understanding of robotics, hydraulics, pneumatics, and/or electric systems for both relay and solid-state machinery preferred.
  • Familiarity with robots.
  • Understanding of OSHA requirements (i.e. Lockout/Tagout, Forklift).

Responsibilities

  • Sets up injection molding machines in anticipation of the molding process, ensuring correct parameters are set for the specific part being molded.
  • Setting molds, dies, etc., to conform to scheduled requirements, to include leaving the workstation clean and organized, with quality parts coming from the process, while minimizing downtime.
  • Clears the production line of previous product materials, tools, and instructions, preparing it for the new part.
  • Performs mold cleaning according to schedule and as needed to maintain optimal performance.
  • Performs routine repairs and preventative maintenance on production machinery.
  • Troubleshoot and solve minor molding process conditions (short shots, flash, burns, etc.) to ensure quality and prevent non-conformance.
  • Adjust, maintain and troubleshoot automated equipment to maximize utilization.
  • Work closely with setup technicians and operators to ensure proper operation of equipment.
  • Collaborate with Plant Leaders to stop molding process due to quality concerns.
  • Completes necessary paperwork timely and accurately.
  • Accurately records use of spare parts to guarantee proper inventory is maintained.
  • Follow setup sheets, record any changes made, and provide suggestions to Process Engineers.
  • Train new/current technicians to increase machine knowledge.
  • Ensures good housekeeping and organization of production floor.
  • Follows all safety guidelines.
