About The Position

The Injection Clinic LPN/RN is responsible for managing the clinic schedule and patient flow to ensure efficient and timely care. This role involves preparing and maintaining exam rooms, managing medical supplies and equipment, and verifying and implementing provider orders for medications and vaccines. The LPN/RN will assess patients for precautions, obtain clinical information, document accurately in the electronic health record, and provide patient education on diagnoses, medications, and treatment plans. Key duties also include administering medications following safety protocols, maintaining infection control, monitoring patient responses to treatment, and engaging translator services when necessary. The position requires adherence to patient rights and confidentiality, participation in continuous improvement initiatives, and collaboration with interprofessional teams to ensure quality patient care and service excellence.

Requirements

  • Ability to read, write and communicate in English
  • Graduate of an accredited Practical Nursing program (for LPN)
  • Currently licensed as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the state of Massachusetts (for LPN)
  • Basic Life Support Certification for Health Care Providers (for LPN)
  • Strong interpersonal, customer service, and time management skills (for LPN)
  • Experience with current office technology and proficiency with computer office applications (Electronic Medical/Health Records, MS Office, etc.) (for LPN)
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (for RN)
  • Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts (for RN)
  • Basic Life Support Certification for Health Care Providers (for RN)
  • Strong interpersonal, customer service, and time management skills (for RN)
  • Experience with current office technology and proficiency with computer office applications (Electronic Medical/Health Records, MS Office, etc.) (for RN)

Responsibilities

  • Manages clinic schedule and patient flow to expedite care and maximize clinical time
  • Advise patient of preparation required or additional testing and keeps patients informed of visit status, unforeseen delays, and other relevant information pertaining to the patient’s visit.
  • Prepare and maintain exam rooms for patient arrivals.
  • Clean and/or maintain inventory of supplies (medical included) and equipment throughout the practice.
  • Verifies and implements provider orders for clinic-administered medications and vaccines.
  • Review orders with the medical director or ordering provider, when needed, for clarification or questions and when precautions or contraindications are identified.
  • Prepares and maintains the safety of drive-through clinic for patient arrivals and administration.
  • Identifies weather conditions in which drive-through administration should switch to indoor administration.
  • Greets and escorts patients to exam rooms when indicated.
  • Assesses patient for precautions or contraindications prior to implementing any provider orders.
  • Obtains and verifies pertinent clinical information including allergies.
  • Documents within the electronic health record timely with accuracy.
  • Provides education to patients on their diagnosis, prescribed medication, administration process, and potential side effects and answer any questions about their treatment plan at an appropriate education level and language to meet the patient’s needs.
  • Administers medications following the 5 rights of medication administration and 3 checks.
  • Maintains infection control standards during all aspects of direct patient care, including during the preparation and administration of injectable medications.
  • Monitors patient’s response to medication administration and responds immediately and appropriately to adverse reactions.
  • Engages translator services, when needed, to facilitate safe and comprehensive care for patients who are not fluent in English.
  • Maintains patient rights and abides by all confidentiality obligations pursuant to CCHC and HIPAA
  • Participates in practice and department meetings, training, etc. to promote continuous improvement and quality patient care.
  • Notifies supervisor to order clinical supplies, clinical equipment, and pharmaceuticals as appropriate.
  • Follows manufacturer’s guidelines for medication storage, handling, and preparation to ensure all administered medications are viable, safe, and effective.
  • Reviews upcoming schedules/charts to identify patients in need of prior authorization or lab orders and engages the appropriate staff to take action.
  • Provides clerical/office support as necessary (i.e. scheduling appointments, greeting and registering patients, scanning incoming medical records and paperwork, preparing medical records, answering phone calls and taking messages, faxing, etc.).
  • Maintains communication and collaboration with interprofessional teams and others to facilitate safe transitions and continuity of care delivery
  • Perform other work-related duties as requested/directed.
  • Consistently provides service excellence to all patients, family members, visitors, volunteers, and co-workers.
