About The Position

Battelle's Inhalation Technology & Aerobiology department is seeking a skilled technician to provide technical support for inhalation-related task work and laboratory maintenance across Battelle's Biomedical Research Center Aerobiology, Chemical Surety, and Life Science Research inhalation toxicology programs. This role involves direct collaboration with study directors and includes opportunities for supervisory responsibilities, data review and analysis, and inhalation report writing. Additional responsibilities include the qualification and validation of equipment and software, as well as assistance in the construction and characterization of aerosol and vapor generation and sampling systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in biology, analytical chemistry, engineering, pharmacology, toxicology, or a related field with 3–5 years of relevant industry experience; candidates with 7+ years of industry experience will also be considered
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment, both giving and receiving direction
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Self-motivated with strong attention to detail
  • Willingness to be immunized with licensed and FDA-approved Investigational New Drugs (IND) recommended for persons at occupational risk of exposure to biological agents, and willingness to participate in periodic drug screening
  • Ability to pass a physical examination and obtain medical clearance to work in a BSL-3 containment laboratory and to wear a respirator
  • Willingness to submit to a security investigation, meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information, and obtain DoD and DoJ clearance with Risk Assessment approval within one year of employment
  • Ability to maintain a reliable attendance record and punctuality
  • Availability to work weekends and holidays on an as-needed basis
  • Must be U.S. citizens

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with plethysmography using Emka or similar software, and experience with system validations
  • Experience in the dissemination of aerosols and vapors using various generation devices
  • Experience in the design, construction, and characterization of systems for the dissemination of aerosols (dry powders and wet suspensions) in the respirable mass range, or vapors
  • Experience handling microorganisms (bacteria and viruses) and toxins
  • Experience in animal handling

Responsibilities

  • Interfacing with study directors to support task execution and research objectives
  • Assisting in the construction, characterization, and validation of aerosol and vapor generation and sampling systems
  • Performing qualification and validation of laboratory equipment and software as needed
  • Conducting data technical review and analyses, and contributing to inhalation report writing
  • Supervising technical staff as applicable
  • Maintaining inhalation equipment and performing troubleshooting as needed
  • Performing QC review of data to ensure accuracy and compliance
  • Ensuring all equipment, reagents, and their respective logbooks and records are properly maintained
  • Performing task-specific work in support of ongoing research programs
