About The Position

The Test & Mechanical Engineer will provide technical leadership for design and testing activities, ensuring compliance with contractual requirements, applicable quality standards, budget constraints, and established project schedules. This role involves designing test benches, overseeing their fabrication, managing material procurement, coordinating laboratory technical staff, and liaising with project systems and/or design engineers. The incumbent will also participate in project design reviews, estimate effort and time for test bench designs, and support mechanical design and proposal teams. Additionally, the engineer will act as a technical reference for cross-functional teams including Purchasing, Quality, Production, and Manufacturing Engineering.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (equivalent experience will be considered).
Minimum of 7 years of experience in product design.
Registration with the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ) is required upon hiring if not already a member.
Knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
Versatility, organization, attention to detail, accountability, and flexibility.
Strong ability to manage priorities, time, and stress in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines.
Ability to analyze, understand, synthesize, and communicate complex technical issues to diverse audiences, including customers.
Proven experience in a structured project development environment.
Bilingualism (English and French), both spoken and written.
French proficiency is required for positions permanently located in Quebec.
Valid driver's license.

Eligible to travel to the United States for business purposes.
Available to travel up to 10% of the time.

Responsibilities

Provide technical leadership for design and testing activities.
Ensure compliance with contractual requirements, quality standards, budget constraints, and project schedules.
Design test benches and oversee their fabrication.
Manage material procurement and coordinate laboratory technical staff.
Liaise with project systems and/or design engineers.
Participate in project design reviews.
Estimate effort and time for test bench designs.
Support mechanical design and proposal teams.
Serve as a technical reference for cross-functional teams (Purchasing, Quality, Production, Manufacturing Engineering).
Analyze customer specifications and railway industry standards.
Participate in and facilitate ideation sessions, design reviews, and decision-making processes.
Perform 3D design (SolidWorks) of test benches and integration of electrical harnesses.
Develop engineering drawings and estimate activities for validation, verification, and problem-solving.
Monitor project progress, costs, open issues, and equipment configurations during validation phases.
Supervise and participate in the assembly of prototypes and test benches.
Conduct validation testing with laboratory technicians.
Plan and manage the weekly schedule according to priorities.
Prepare technical documentation (test procedures, reports, installation procedures, modification instructions, calculation notes).
Participate in technical presentations and project reviews with customers.
Provide technical expertise to the project team (supplier co-design, deviation/nonconformance management, support to manufacturing engineers, failure analysis, troubleshooting).
Support the design engineering team with engineering calculations and analyses (static/dynamic, strength of materials, FEA, tolerance stack-ups, torque, spring/machine element sizing, DFMEA).
Participate in the preparation of 2D engineering drawings (GD&T) and review drawings from mechanical drafters.
