Responsibilities

  • Obtains and documents comprehensive nursing history, including present condition and prior problems.
  • Performs basic patient assessments, demonstrating knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and pathology.
  • Records vital signs, notes changes, and conducts further investigations as needed.
  • Identifies abnormal diagnostic data and understands its implications, reporting to physicians and incorporating into care plans.
  • Develops nursing care plans based on assessment information to guide patient care.
  • Reviews care plans for assigned patients and includes patients and families in planning, prioritizing, and goal setting.
  • Provides safe and therapeutic care based on care plans, adhering to established standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Accepts accountability for clinical care and supervises nonprofessional personnel.
  • Communicates effectively with patients, families, and the healthcare team to achieve care plan goals.
  • Incorporates input from other healthcare team members into the care plan.
  • Performs technical skills basic to the unit's care.
  • Identifies patient teaching needs and provides understandable instructions to patients and families.
  • Notes discharge planning elements and incorporates them into care plans, demonstrating awareness of community resources.
  • Responds appropriately in urgent and/or emergency situations.
