Responsibilities

Obtains and documents comprehensive nursing history, including present condition and prior problems.
Performs basic patient assessments, demonstrating knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and pathology.
Records vital signs, notes changes, and conducts further investigations as needed.
Identifies abnormal diagnostic data and understands its implications, reporting to physicians and incorporating into care plans.
Develops nursing care plans based on assessment information to guide patient care.
Reviews care plans for assigned patients and includes patients and families in planning, prioritizing, and goal setting.
Provides safe and therapeutic care based on care plans, adhering to established standards, policies, and procedures.
Accepts accountability for clinical care and supervises nonprofessional personnel.
Communicates effectively with patients, families, and the healthcare team to achieve care plan goals.
Incorporates input from other healthcare team members into the care plan.
Performs technical skills basic to the unit's care.
Identifies patient teaching needs and provides understandable instructions to patients and families.
Notes discharge planning elements and incorporates them into care plans, demonstrating awareness of community resources.
Responds appropriately in urgent and/or emergency situations.
Evaluates and documents patient responses to nursing care.
Participates in evaluating nursing care for patient groups.
Identifies strengths and weaknesses of nursing care systems.
