About The Position

The Infusion Services Registered Nurse delivers comprehensive, specialized care to infusion patients in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team. This role encompasses patient assessment, administration of complex IV therapies, care coordination, clinic flow management, and patient/family education within established INS/ONS and facility guidelines.

Requirements

  • Current, unrestricted Alaska RN license required prior to start (Agency staff must hold an active AK license at acceptance; Direct Hires must have applied prior to start date).
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in immunotherapy and chemotherapy specialty medications.
  • Current Flu Vaccine required.
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program required for AK RN licensure.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1+ years of clinical nursing experience required, with a minimum of 1 year dedicated to chemotherapy/immunotherapy specialty medications.
  • Current BLS and ACLS required.
  • Expert understanding of pharmacology (side effects, adverse reactions, oxygen/airway management), disease processes, and regulatory documentation standards.
  • Proficiency in operating IV infusion pumps, cardiac monitors, electronic health records (EHR), automated medication inventory systems, and central vascular access/phlebotomy equipment.
  • Ability to make independent clinical decisions, manage high patient volumes, and act promptly in emergency/crisis situations.

Nice To Haves

  • Clinical competency assessment required within 3 months of hire and every 3 years thereafter.
  • Commissioned Corps: Meets billet description requirements for O-2 to O-3.

Responsibilities

  • Administer specialty IV fluids, chemotherapy, and immunotherapy via peripheral or central lines (CVC, PICC, ports) using prescribed order sets.
  • Maintain vascular access devices according to INS/ONS guidelines.
  • Review orders with referring providers, oncologists, and pharmacy prior to administration.
  • Monitor, record, and report patient reactions to treatments, medications, and procedures.
  • Manage referral processes, prior authorizations, appointment scheduling, and communication of test results to completing the circle of care.
  • Guide clinic staff to optimize daily patient flow and resource utilization.
  • Maintain a safe, therapeutic environment adhering to infection control and safety standards.
  • Develop and deliver post-discharge education for patients and families.
  • Convene interdisciplinary patient care meetings as clinical conditions warrant.
