About The Position

Cochrane is seeking a Casual Infrastructure Services Worker - Eco Centre to join their Waste & Recycling Services team. This frontline role is crucial for the safe, efficient, and customer-focused operation of the Cochrane Eco Centre, supporting waste reduction, recycling, and sustainability initiatives. The ideal candidate will enjoy hands-on work, be passionate about waste reduction and sustainability, and thrive in a dynamic environment. This position directly supports community waste-reduction efforts by ensuring residents can recycle responsibly, assisting with equipment operation, and materials processing.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated interest in waste reduction, reuse, and recycling.
  • Self-motivated and able to work with limited supervision.
  • Ability to perform physical labour in a variety of weather and environmental conditions.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to interact with the public in a tactful, diplomatic, and professional manner.
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 (or higher) Driver’s Licence.
  • Must be legally entitled to live and work in Canada.

Responsibilities

  • Operate the Cochrane Eco Centre in alignment with municipal public-service standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist Waste & Recycling staff with onsite collection, processing, sorting, and handling of recyclables and special waste materials.
  • Follow direction from the Eco Centre Team Lead and senior staff to monitor, sort, and process materials as required.
  • Support the safe operation of mobile and stationary equipment; conduct pre- and post-use inspections on equipment, vehicles, tools, and mechanical systems.
  • Assist residents with proper sorting, disposal of special waste, answering questions, and directing traffic within the facility.
  • Support the automated waste and recycling cart program, including cart inventory, assembly, delivery, and basic repairs.
  • Participate in the Town’s Health & Safety program, including inspections, preventative maintenance, hazard reporting, procedure development, and safety training.
  • Model the Town’s corporate values and the principles of waste reduction, reuse, and recycling in all aspects of the job.

Benefits

  • Hourly rate between $22.58/hr and $23.27/hr
