Infrastructure Engineer
About The Position
The Infrastructure Engineer delivers infrastructure solutions supporting components of larger project-based solutions. The role assists more senior engineers with infrastructure planning, engineering, and architecture for assigned systems, and may independently deliver smaller project components. It supports one or two platforms within a single infrastructure engineering domain. The engineer implements requirements and functional specifications for designated infrastructure systems, develops and validates designs and prototypes, builds and prepares hardware or software configurations, and tests infrastructure components. The role also supports enterprise infrastructure implementation and maintenance, documents standards and technical specifications, collaborates with engineers and technology partners, evaluates service options, and provides post-implementation support and enhancements. The position is based at Lowe’s headquarters in Mooresville, North Carolina.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer information systems (CIS), or a related field, or equivalent years of experience in lieu of the education requirement, if applicable.
- 2 years of experience in an IT support environment with technical experience in distributed technologies and systems development.
Nice To Haves
- Master’s degree in computer science, CIS, or a related field.
- 2 years of experience leading projects, with or without direct reports.
- Experience working in a large matrixed organization.
- Experience working with third-party IT vendors and/or systems solution providers.
- Experience writing technical documentation in an infrastructure development environment.
- IT experience in the retail industry.
Responsibilities
- Implement solution requirements and functional specifications for designated infrastructure systems, with guidance as needed.
- Collaborate with engineers to deliver flexible, scalable, and maintainable infrastructure systems.
- Work with senior engineers to provide recommendations and input on infrastructure design options, risks, and benefits.
- Write and review technical specifications and documentation.
- Develop or modify infrastructure solutions within designated computing environments.
- Develop and validate basic system design prototypes and ensure designs adhere to company architecture standards.
- Build basic hardware and/or software configurations and prepare system components for installation.
- Develop, validate, and execute basic infrastructure tests to identify errors and ensure solutions meet functional specifications.
- Validate and test smaller components of larger infrastructure systems and revise system components based on test results as appropriate.
- Support implementation and maintenance of assigned enterprise infrastructure systems for successful deployment and operation.
- Develop and document detailed standards for introducing and maintaining services.
- Collaborate with technology partners to help define and understand target strategies.
- Evaluate new service options and identify issues and impacts.
- Provide post-implementation support and make system enhancements as needed.
