About The Position

Designs, builds, secures, and supports IBM Db2 for z/OS database application environments to enable highly available, resilient, and reliable business services. Apply advanced database administration, performance engineering, automation, and problem-solving skills to optimize enterprise workloads, protect data, reduce operational risk, and achieve service, recovery, and regulatory objectives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, a related field, or equivalent education, training, and work-related experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in infrastructure engineering.
  • Strong knowledge of enterprise infrastructure technologies including cloud, network, database, storage, platform, computing, and middleware.

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on experience administering IBM Db2 for z/OS in a large, high-availability production environment, preferably supporting financial-services workloads.
  • Experience with Db2 utilities, DDL, BIND/REBIND, EXPLAIN, access-path analysis, SQL tuning, locking and concurrency diagnostics, and database statistics strategy.
  • Experience with Db2 data sharing and Parallel Sysplex concepts, including group buffer pools, castout processing, locking, and recovery considerations.
  • Experience with Db2 backup and recovery design, image-copy strategies, point-in-time recovery, disaster-recovery exercises, and recoverability validation.
  • Experience with IBM OMEGAMON for Db2 Performance Expert, Db2 accounting and statistics reports, performance traces, IFCIDs, or comparable monitoring and diagnostic tools.
  • Working knowledge of z/OS operations and tooling, including TSO/ISPF, SDSF, JCL, JES, data set management, RACF, and enterprise scheduling platforms such as ESP.
  • Automation or scripting experience using REXX, CLIST, Python on z/OS UNIX System Services, z/OSMF workflows, Ansible for z/OS, or similar technologies.
  • Experience with ServiceNow or comparable IT service-management processes, including incident, problem, change, and configuration management in a regulated environment.
  • Experience supporting Db2 version upgrades, maintenance, function-level activation, object migrations, and application-release implementation across development, test, and production environments.
  • Strong analytical, communication, documentation, collaboration, and mentoring skills, with the ability to translate technical findings into clear risk and business-impact statements.

Responsibilities

  • Design, create, and maintain Db2 for z/OS database objects, including databases, table spaces, tables, indexes, schemas, storage groups, partitioning strategies, and related physical design standards.
  • Plan, execute, monitor, and troubleshoot Db2 utilities and maintenance processes, including REORG, RUNSTATS, COPY, MERGECOPY, RECOVER, LOAD, UNLOAD, and CHECK utilities, to sustain performance, integrity, and recoverability.
  • Administer packages and plans through BIND and REBIND activities, evaluate access paths with EXPLAIN and related tooling, and partner with application teams to improve SQL, batch, and online transaction performance.
  • Monitor and tune Db2 subsystem and workload performance, including buffer pools, locking and concurrency, database statistics, distributed connectivity, and data-sharing components, using enterprise monitoring and diagnostic information.
  • Implement and validate backup, recovery, high-availability, and disaster-recovery capabilities for database objects and supporting workloads and maintain procedures that support established recovery objectives.
  • Troubleshoot complex production incidents, performance degradation, utility failures, deadlocks, timeouts, and data availability issues; contribute to root-cause analysis, corrective actions, and post-incident reviews.
  • Automate routine database administration, health checks, statistics collection, and utility processing using JCL, REXX/CLIST, scheduling tools, and other approved automation capabilities.
  • Support Db2 upgrades, maintenance, function-level activation, environment migrations, application releases, and controlled production changes while following change, testing, validation, and separation-of-duties requirements.
  • Partner with application, z/OS, CICS, security, storage, operations, and engineering teams to implement secure, scalable database solutions and resolve cross-platform issues.
  • Apply least-privilege, data-protection, audit, and regulatory-control requirements to Db2 access and administration in coordination with enterprise security and governance teams.
  • Develop and maintain technical standards, operating procedures, recovery documentation, runbooks, and knowledge-transfer materials; provide technical guidance to less-experienced professionals.
  • Participate in on-call support and planned change windows for mission-critical Db2 for z/OS services and drive continuous improvement through monitoring, alerting, automation, and operational simplification.
