About The Position

The Infrastructure Engineer position has responsibility in two key areas of IT Technical Services and Operations: Infrastructure Administration, Projects, and Monitoring & IT Infrastructure Support and Helpdesk. This role performs various duties related to IT infrastructure, system administration, telecommunications, and networking. The engineer will configure, monitor, and troubleshoot network connectivity issues, as well as protect the environment from external/internal threats. The Infrastructure Engineer role also assists in high-level planning and consultative input on architecture, hardware, software, and services for budgeting and purchasing. Other responsibilities include assisting the Sr. Infrastructure Engineer & Network Telecommunications Manager with installing/configuring new equipment and technologies, as well as retiring equipment that is at or near End of Life or End of Support. Additionally, the role provides technical support for Helpdesk employees regarding advanced technology platforms such as core and access layer routing/switching, wireless, telecommunications, SD-WAN, network access control, firewall, and VoIP. The engineer will work directly with the IT Support Analyst Team to provide training, direction for key areas, and provide formal/informal technical coaching/mentoring to peers.

Requirements

  • Capability to be on-call 7 by 24 and work odd hours.

  • Demonstrate experience in analyzing and troubleshooting hardware, software, and network issues.
  • Fundamental to Advanced understanding of Network Security/Routing/Switching.
  • Fundamental to Advanced understanding of SD-WAN.
  • Fundamental to Advanced understanding of Voice/IP Telephony Methodologies.
  • Fundamental to Advanced understanding of Microsoft Windows Server.
  • Fundamental to Advanced understanding of Firewall Methodologies.

  • Fundamental to Advanced understanding of Disaster Recovery Planning and Execution.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in designing and improving infrastructure projects while monitoring licensing and capacity thresholds.
  • Assist in the execution of projects and changes to support business/IT strategy.
  • Assist the Sr. Infrastructure and Network Manager in performing tasks required to install, configure, and maintain supported technologies.
  • Attend regular training and provide training/direction to IT Support Analysts on networking and infrastructure knowledge.
  • Assist IT Support Analysts with implementing upgrade and replacement strategies.
  • Provide troubleshooting and escalation support for IT Support Analyst colleagues.
  • Work with technology vendors directly to remedy reported issues.
  • Perform daily, weekly, and monthly activities related to networking and telecommunications infrastructure.
  • Serve as the first escalation contact for the support team in networking or telecommunications issues they cannot resolve.
  • Use network monitoring tools to ensure optimum up-time for network services and servers for local and satellite offices, providing redundancy where applicable.
  • Configure alerts to proactively notify the networking group of situations requiring immediate attention.
  • Protect the network from outside threats (intrusions, denial of service attacks, viruses, etc.).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
