About The Position

Grainger is seeking an Infrastructure Engineer II to support and own a portfolio of business-critical applications. This role is responsible for keeping assigned applications stable, secure, documented, and aligned with business needs. The engineer will provide Level 2 application support, troubleshoot technical issues, coordinate with vendors and internal IT teams, support changes and upgrades, and help improve application reliability over time. This role is a good fit for someone who enjoys solving technical problems, working across teams, and taking ownership of important business systems.

Requirements

  • 2+ years experience with Oracle databases (11g, 12c, 18c, or 19c)
  • 2+ years of experience with SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or Teradata databases
  • 2+ years familiarity with ITSM tools such as ServiceNow, Jira, Azure DevOps, or similar platforms.
  • 2+ years experience managing user access, permissions, documentation, and application controls.
  • 2+ years experience supporting incident, problem, and change management processes.
  • 2+ years experience coordinating with IT, security, development, infrastructure, and vendor teams.
  • 2+ years experience working with business users to gather requirements, troubleshoot issues, and prioritize enhancements.
  • 2+ years experience with application support, upgrades, releases, testing, and production issue resolution.
  • 2+ years experience supporting or managing enterprise business applications.
  • Knowledge of enterprise application support, lifecycle management, upgrades, releases, and production operations.
  • Ability to troubleshoot application issues and coordinate resolution across IT, vendor, and business teams.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to translate business needs into technical requirements.
  • Experience with testing activities, including regression testing, defect tracking, and user acceptance testing.
  • Ability to create and maintain clear application documentation, support guides, runbooks, and process flows.
  • Knowledge of enterprise application support, lifecycle management, upgrades, releases, and production operations.
  • Knowledge of user access, roles, permissions, security controls, and compliance requirements

Responsibilities

  • Own the day-to-day health, stability, and performance of assigned business applications.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for application-related questions, issues, enhancements, and operational support.
  • Partner with business stakeholders to understand application needs, prioritize requests, and ensure the application supports business processes.
  • Coordinate with IT support, infrastructure, security, vendors, and development teams to resolve incidents and implement changes.
  • Monitor application performance, availability, integrations, and recurring issues; drive improvements to reduce risk and downtime.
  • Manage application lifecycle activities, including upgrades, patches, releases, configuration changes, and retirement planning.
  • Ensure application documentation is maintained, including ownership details, support processes, data flows, integrations, access controls, and recovery procedures.
