About The Position

Please note this is an onsite position and will require you to live within a two-hour radius of Artesia, NM. This position is located at the Regional Emergency Dispatch Authority (REDA). The Information Technology Specialist (ITS) serves as one of the primary support persons for the Office of Information and Technology and will act as a liaison for REDA’s service agencies. The Information technology Specialist supports the day-to-day operations of REDA on many different systems and integrations. The Information Technology Specialist will be required to have extensive knowledge to ensure minimal downtime is achieved during an outage. Working with the Chief Information Officer to ensure knowledge transfer is working both ways to support our mission. This information is intended to be descriptive of the key responsibilities of the position. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED Certificate
  • Must successfully pass a criminal and employment background check
  • Must have NO felony or domestic violence convictions or misdemeanor convictions involving moral turpitude.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required
  • Eligibility to work in the US verified through E-Verify
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license (This position will require operating a REDA vehicle) Effective oral and written communication skills in English required
  • Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen Must have NO marijuana use within the last year
  • Must have NO other illegal drug use in the last three years
  • Must be detail-oriented
  • Must be able to handle stressful situations while maintaining a positive attitude
  • Must have ability to perform the essential duties in the working conditions with the equipment, tools and materials listed
  • Must be able to recognize, work with and maintain confidential information
  • Knowledge of what a PSAP is and the impact it has on the communities it serves.
  • Ability to obtain Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) Security Awareness level 4 certification within six months of employment.
  • Any combination of qualifications and work experience that demonstrates an applicant has the necessary knowledge, skills, ability and character to successfully perform the job will be considered.
  • Knowledge of IT systems and infrastructure
  • Knowledge of Ticketing systems
  • Knowledge of Virtualization of systems (Hypervisor and VMWare)
  • Knowledge of Network attached storage systems
  • Knowledge of Load balancers, port security, VLANs, VPNs, VoIP, and Access List as it applies to switches and firewalls in a layer 3 environment.
  • Knowledge of SEIM when dealing with security
  • Superior analytical and problem-solving capabilities
  • Building and maintaining security systems
  • Telecommunications systems including peripheral equipment (e.g., audio codex, pots systems, etc.)
  • SQL database
  • OSI model networking
  • Operating systems (e.g., Windows server, Desktop)
  • Ability to Use monitoring solutions and respond to alerts.
  • Ability to Work independently and know when to request support to complete projects
  • Ability to Understand OSI model when dealing with networking
  • Ability to Secure WiFi networks
  • Ability to Respond to security incidents promptly

Nice To Haves

  • IT Technician certifications (e.g. CompTIA A+, Microsoft Certified IT Professional, VCTA)
  • Security+ or higher security certification
  • Certifications in Networking (e.g. CompTIA Network+, CCNA, JNCIA)
  • College Degree in an Information Technology area of study for practical use
  • Job experience will be evaluated as a substitute for certifications and college. Experience must reflect a time in a position directly using that knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Handle day-to-day technical issues on workstations and servers.
  • Work with patch management systems and software deployment solutions to keep systems updated (including service packs, patches, hotfixes, and security configurations)
  • Build “How-to” guides for staff and other IT personnel.
  • Liaise with vendors and other IT personnel for problem resolution.
  • Liaise with service agencies
  • Prepare and maintain disaster recovery methods and rapid recovery methods.
  • Assist with asset inventory control of IT equipment.
  • Assist in managing a large variety of systems and integration components.
  • Implement Security practices based on governing requirements and industry standards.
  • Knowledge of the Security Triangle and how to apply it.
  • Work a as valued team member to develop new technology solutions for REDA.
  • May be required to work irregular hours
  • May be required to work overtime
  • May be required to attend job-related meeting
  • May be required to travel (25% or less)
  • 24 hour on call may be required
  • Perform other duties as assigned
