About The Position

The Santa Clarita Community College District/College of the Canyons is seeking a full-time Information Technology Coordinator I (Computer Support) in the Business Services and Information Technology division. This position provides user support to assist information systems end-users, ensuring that information systems needs of district staff and students are met professionally and in a timely manner. The role involves evaluating and testing programs, computer and audio/visual hardware, and software applications prior to installation. It also includes providing training to hourly staff and small groups of college employees, assisting in the maintenance of network accounts and system resources, and performing various skilled and technical duties related to the installation, configuration, maintenance, and repair of software, computers, audio/visual components, peripheral equipment, and telecommunications equipment.

Requirements

  • Three years increasingly-responsible full-time experience providing technical user support services and/or maintaining, supporting and repairing computers, software applications and telecommunications equipment.
  • Extensive recent experience maintaining and supporting both PC and Apple computer systems and software is required.
  • Education equivalent to three years of college coursework (90 semester units) from an accredited college, university, trade school, or recognized training program is required.
  • Knowledge of computer and electronic equipment including computers, peripherals and other related office equipment.
  • Knowledge of training and basic instruction reinforcement techniques for providing direction in the use of computers and software.
  • Knowledge of both PC and Apple desktop environments and operating systems.
  • Knowledge of principles of basic systems analysis.
  • Working knowledge of commercial software packages and operating systems including but not limited to the Microsoft Windows current and previous operating systems, Microsoft Office 365, Microsoft Outlook, Photoshop, Acrobat reader and Mac OS.
  • Knowledge of mobile device management systems such as JAMF and Intune.
  • Knowledge of computer hardware peripherals including but not limited to scanners, and printers.
  • Knowledge of computer networking equipment, testing devices and cabling standards.
  • Knowledge of information systems technology and terms including recent developments in networking and computer technology.
  • Knowledge of methods and procedures used in the maintenance and repair of electronics systems and instruments.
  • Oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to plan, schedule and perform simple and complex user support activities in an organized manner.
  • Ability to coordinate projects involving users from multiple departments while meeting assigned deadlines.

  • Must be able to lift and stack objects up to 50 pounds occasionally and frequently exert 10 to 20 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
  • Position involves sitting and viewing a computer monitor for extended periods of time plus frequent periods of standing and walking, which may include climbing staircases, kneeling and crawling; dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and mouse.
  • Must be able to perceive the nature of sound, utilize near and far vision, depth perception, provide oral information, and possess the manual dexterity to operate computers and related equipment.
  • Handle and work with various materials and objects which are essential aspects of this position.

Responsibilities

  • Provides user support to assist information systems end-users.
  • Assures that information systems needs of district staff and students are met in a professional and timely manner.
  • Performs evaluation and testing of programs, computer and audio/visual hardware, and software applications prior to installation in offices or classrooms.
  • Provides training to hourly staff and small groups of college employees.
  • Assists in the maintenance of network accounts and system resources.
  • Performs a variety of skilled and technical duties related to the installation, configuration, maintenance and repair of software, computers, audio/visual components, peripheral equipment, and telecommunications equipment.
  • Coordinates projects and other assignments requiring a high level of responsibility and independence with a focus on student facing applications and equipment.
  • Performs user help desk functions and operations; uses a record-keeping system to log requests and track resolution of problems.
  • Maintains effective communication with users.
  • Plans and coordinates various workshops and training sessions related to the use of District technology to employees online, over the phone, at their work location and in one-on-one, small group and classroom training environments.
  • Performs installation, scheduled maintenance and upgrades of computer equipment owned or leased by the District; configures, troubleshoots and repairs computers, peripheral equipment and software applications.
  • Performs setup and maintenance on district-owned employee and student lab laptops to ensure proper operation and connection to the campus network both wired and wireless.
  • Operates testing and measurement devices, computer diagnostic software and other specialized instruments used in the repair and maintenance of computer equipment and related peripherals.
  • Consults with various departments to determine current and future technical needs; works with faculty and staff on acquiring equipment for evaluations and purchase.
  • Provides assistance to students, faculty and staff on utilizing computer and software programs including remote access and the proper use of equipment.
  • Assists in the maintenance of user accounts on the system.
  • Works in a team environment with members of the IT and Student Services staff to maintain the district's IT infrastructure and supports users and students throughout the district.
  • Maintains a current and accurate inventory of computer hardware, software and licenses owned or leased by the district.
  • Prepares detailed instructions, operating procedures, and documentation on the installation and use of district supported hardware and application programs.
  • Connects computers and peripherals to the campus network (both wired and wireless) including cabling when necessary.
  • Tests software performance prior to releasing new applications for desktop and network use.
  • Maintains end-user Operating Systems and application programs on PC and Apple desktop environments to ensure proper operation.
  • Provides direction to part-time employees and coordinates workload with the technicians in the lower technician classifications.
  • Trains employees in the lower technician classifications.
  • Drives to various locations to setup and modify new and existing computer workstations.
  • Attends meetings and relevant conferences and trainings as assigned.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
