About The Position

Essential Network Security (ENS) Solutions is seeking a Senior Information Systems Security Engineer (ISSE) to safeguard digital assets and sensitive information. The role serves as a security engineering subject matter expert for containerized environments, service mesh technologies, and microservices, designing and managing security controls for containerized workloads. It integrates security into CI/CD pipelines and DevSecOps workflows and supports compliance with RMF, NIST SP 800-53, ICD 503, and FedRAMP requirements. The engineer monitors and investigates security events, performs threat and risk assessments, conducts security assessments of container orchestration platforms, microservices, and APIs, and helps develop incident response plans. The role collaborates with platform engineers, ISSOs, developers, IT, software development, and compliance teams to embed security throughout the system lifecycle. It also maintains security architecture and control documentation and prepares reports on findings, incidents, and actions taken.

Requirements

  • Active TS/SCI with CI Poly security clearance.
  • CISSP or equivalent certification to support DoD 8140 requirements.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Security, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of experience as a cybersecurity engineer specializing in designing and building implementations of required security controls and implementing continuous monitoring and auditing for compliance.
  • Strong experience with NIST SP 800-53, RMF, ICD 503, FISMA, and FedRAMP.
  • Strong skills specifying and implementing log collection into tools such as Splunk and querying and analyzing aggregated logs to identify security-relevant anomalies or risks.
  • Experience with security tools such as Fortify, Acunetix, and Prisma Cloud.
  • Proficiency in incident response, security incident handling, and forensic analysis techniques.
  • Hands-on experience implementing and validating security controls within a containerized/Kubernetes/DevSecOps IL5/IL6+ environment.
  • Experience performing periodic security checks to support continuous monitoring aligned with the NIST Risk Management Framework.
  • Strong understanding of network protocols, operating systems, and infrastructure components.
  • Effective communication skills, including the ability to convey complex technical concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a security engineering subject matter expert for containerized environments, service mesh technologies, and microservices.
  • Design, implement, and manage security controls for containerized workloads, including image scanning, firewalls, intrusion detection and prevention, endpoint protection, encryption, runtime protection, RBAC, and network segmentation.
  • Integrate security into CI/CD pipelines and DevSecOps workflows and support compliance with RMF, NIST SP 800-53, ICD 503, and FedRAMP requirements.
  • Configure and optimize security monitoring and logging solutions and work with container security tools such as Prisma Cloud or similar tools.
  • Monitor network traffic, system logs, and security alerts; investigate anomalies and breaches; and take appropriate actions to mitigate risks.
  • Develop and implement incident response plans for security breaches, incidents, and other security concerns.
  • Monitor threat intelligence feeds, conduct threat analysis, and perform risk assessments to identify emerging threats and vulnerabilities.
  • Collaborate with platform engineers, ISSOs, developers, IT, software development, and compliance teams to establish, embed, and enforce security policies, standards, and procedures throughout the system lifecycle.
  • Integrate security into all phases of the development lifecycle and promote a comprehensive approach to cybersecurity.
  • Conduct regular security assessments of container orchestration platforms, microservices, and APIs; identify vulnerabilities and weaknesses; and recommend mitigations.
  • Maintain documentation of security architecture, control implementation procedures, configurations, and continuous monitoring strategies.
  • Prepare detailed reports on security findings, incidents, and actions taken.
  • Perform periodic security checks supporting continuous monitoring aligned with the NIST Risk Management Framework.
