The ISSE integrates security engineering principles, requirements, and controls into information systems throughout the Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC), from design and development through testing and sustainment. The position serves as the primary security engineering authority supporting system owners, ISSOs, and development teams in achieving and maintaining Authorization to Operate (ATO). The role supports security control selection, implementation, and assessment under NIST SP 800-53 and the Risk Management Framework (RMF), including development of System Security Plans (SSPs), Security Assessment Reports (SARs), and Plans of Action and Milestones (POA&Ms). It also engineers and validates technical security controls, supports security testing and vulnerability management, reviews configurations against DISA STIGs, assesses the security impact of proposed system changes, and prepares technical security documentation. The position requires working onsite five days a week in Washington, DC, and an active Top Secret clearance. Planet Technologies provides Microsoft consulting services to public-sector and commercial organizations, including federal agencies.
