About The Position

The Comptroller of the Treasury's Audit Internship Program is a 10-week paid educational and experiential learning opportunity offering undergraduate students a chance to witness and participate in the audit operations of the office. Interns will spend the summer building skills through their assignment to an active audit and audit-specific training. Interns will also have opportunities to build relationships with each other through shared experiences. Information Systems (IS) Audit Intern responsibilities may include learning to examine and review the following: the adequacy of internal controls; records; reports; financial statements; information systems; compliance with laws and regulations; and management practices for state government entities and other organizations receiving public funds. IS Audit Interns may assist in evaluating: The fairness of financial statement presentation, The adequacy of internal controls, Data integrity for application systems, Compliance with laws, regulations, contracts, and grant agreements, and/or The efficiency and effectiveness of an entity’s operations. In addition to collaborating daily with the Information Systems team and engaging with Office leaders and staff, interns participate in meaningful professional development activities. These include Business Etiquette Day, a full-day experience focused on professionalism, emotional intelligence, and cultivating a strong professional brand, complete with an etiquette lunch led by COT staff. Interns also take part in fun and interactive engagement opportunities such as speed networking with full-time employees, a guided tour of the Tennessee Capitol to explore the state’s rich history, and weekly cohort check-ins to build connection and share progress. The internship concludes with a final cohort presentation that showcases what they’ve learned and accomplished. Information Systems audit internship opportunities are based out of Nashville, TN. Depending on the audit assignment, interns may have the opportunity for limited travel during the summer. Typical travel opportunities are in the Nashville area; however, some may allow for travel to other parts of Tennessee.

Requirements

  • Rising juniors, seniors, or graduate accounting students
  • Interested in applying classroom knowledge to governmental auditing
  • Successfully completed at least 6 hours of accounting, computer information systems, computer science, information security, data analytics, or business-related coursework
