The Information System Security Officer (ISSO) I is responsible for ensuring the appropriate operational security posture is maintained for an information system. This role works in close collaboration with the Information System Security Manager (ISSM) and Information Security Officer (ISO). The position requires detailed knowledge and expertise in managing the security aspects of an information system, often being assigned responsibility for the day-to-day security operations. This includes physical and environmental protection, personnel security, incident handling, and security training and awareness. The ISSO will coordinate with the ISSM and ISO to monitor information systems and their operating environments, develop and update authorization documentation, and implement configuration management across authorization boundaries. They will assess the security impact of changes and make recommendations to the ISSM. The primary function involves supporting Special Access Programs (SAPs) for Department of Defense (DoD) agencies, including HQ Air Force, Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD), and Military Compartments efforts, providing day-to-day support for Collateral, Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI), and Special Access Program (SAP) activities.
