About The Position

Holyoke High School Dean Campus seeks a Career Technical Education teacher for its Information Support Services and Networking Career Pathways program. This position will support the continued development of ISSN as a career pathway program, with the goal of becoming a full Chapter 74-approved program in the future. The instructor will teach students the knowledge, technical skills, professional expectations, safety practices, and workplace habits needed for success in information technology, computer support, networking, cybersecurity, cloud computing, systems administration, and related career pathways. The instructor will provide classroom, lab-based, and applied learning experiences aligned to the Massachusetts Information Support Services and Networking Standards and Skills, district curriculum expectations, industry-recognized credentials, and student needs. The ISSN framework includes safety and health in an IT environment, information technology development in society, help desk support, computer hardware, operating systems, laptops and mobile technology, fundamentals of networking, fundamentals of cybersecurity, cloud computing, basics of programming and development, servers, employability, entrepreneurship, and digital literacy. The instructor will work collaboratively with the existing Programming and Web Development program and staff to strengthen Dean Campus’s broader information technology pathway. This collaboration may include shared planning, aligned projects, credential preparation, cross-program enrichment, student recruitment, equipment planning, advisory board work, career-connected learning, and support for students exploring information technology careers across both programs. The instructor will develop lesson plans, maintain accurate records, demonstrate technical processes, guide student activities, support students in attaining required competencies, ensure safety protocols, and communicate regularly with students, families, school counselors, administrators, employers, and industry partners. The instructor will also collaborate with the CTE Director, Co-op Coordinator, Programming and Web Development staff, advisory board members, and community partners to support work-based learning opportunities, including job shadowing, internships, cooperative education placements when appropriate, and industry credential attainment.

Requirements

Associate degree or higher degree related to Information Support Services and Networking, Information Technology, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Networking, Computer Systems, or a related field preferred.
Appropriate Massachusetts Career Technical Education Teacher license in Information Support Services and Networking, 9-14, preferred, or eligibility and willingness to obtain the appropriate license.
At least four years of full-time employment experience directly related to Information Support Services and Networking, or the employment experience required for eligibility under Massachusetts Career Technical Education licensure regulations.
Passing score on the written and performance tests in Information Support Services and Networking required, or eligibility and willingness to meet this requirement.
Passing score in either CTE Literacy Skills or Communication and Literacy Skills required, or eligibility and willingness to meet this requirement.
Knowledge of information technology, help desk support, computer hardware, operating systems, mobile technology, network systems, cybersecurity, cloud computing, servers, basic programming, web development concepts, databases, and digital literacy.
Knowledge of IT safety expectations, including OSHA-related practices, safe use of power sources, ESD protection, ergonomics, environmental controls, and safe handling of technology equipment and materials.
Ability to develop and deliver competency-based, hands-on instruction aligned to state standards, industry expectations, credential expectations, and student needs.
Ability to work collaboratively with the Programming and Web Development program and staff to support aligned student learning experiences and program development.
Ability to support the growth of a new career pathway program, including curriculum development, documentation, recruitment, advisory work, equipment planning, and industry partnership development.
Ability to build strong relationships with students, families, staff, administrators, employers, postsecondary partners, and community partners.
Strong classroom and lab management skills, including the ability to maintain a safe, respectful, and productive learning environment.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
Experience using computers, instructional technology, software tools, learning management systems, and digital resources for teaching and administrative tasks.

Nice To Haves

Experience with industry-recognized credentials such as OSHA 10 Computer Occupations, CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network+, CompTIA Security+, CompTIA Server+, CompTIA Cloud+, Cisco, Microsoft, or related credentials preferred.
Prior teaching, training, mentoring, or supervisory experience preferred.
Experience working in an urban setting preferred.
Experience working with diverse student populations preferred.

Responsibilities

Teach a district-approved Information Support Services and Networking Career Pathways curriculum aligned to Massachusetts CTE standards, program development goals, and student needs.
Support the development of ISSN as a future Chapter 74-approved program, including curriculum alignment, competency development, credential planning, equipment planning, advisory board engagement, and documentation needed for program growth.
Work collaboratively with the existing Programming and Web Development instructor and staff to align information technology learning experiences, strengthen student pathways, and support shared program goals.
Plan and deliver instruction in information technology, help desk support, computer hardware, operating systems, mobile technology, networking, cybersecurity, cloud computing, servers, basic programming, web development concepts, employability, entrepreneurship, and digital literacy.
Prepare and implement lesson plans that address the individual needs, interests, learning styles, language backgrounds, and abilities of students.
Create and maintain a safe, respectful, inclusive, and productive classroom and technology lab environment.
Establish clear objectives for lessons, units, technical projects, labs, demonstrations, certifications, and career readiness expectations.
Demonstrate technical processes, hardware and software tools, network configurations, troubleshooting procedures, security practices, and customer support protocols using appropriate instructional methods and hands-on learning experiences.
Guide students in the selection, practice, and performance of appropriate technical activities and help students attain required technical and employability competencies.
Provide individual and group instruction based on student needs, activity requirements, safety expectations, and program standards.
Teach and reinforce safety and health practices in an IT environment, including safe use of power sources, electrostatic discharge protection, personal protective equipment, workspace ergonomics, environmental controls, safe handling of components and materials, and OSHA-related safety expectations.
Instruct students in appropriate procedures for installing, configuring, maintaining, troubleshooting, and securing computer hardware, operating systems, mobile devices, network systems, cloud-based tools, servers, and related technologies.
Teach students to provide help desk support, communicate professionally with customers, handle confidential information appropriately, document work, use ticketing systems, and follow regulated policies and procedures.
Support student learning in cybersecurity, including common threats, vulnerabilities, secure systems, access control, authentication, encryption, physical and logical security, data protection, cyber ethics, incident response, and safe digital behavior.
Prepare students for industry-recognized credentials aligned to the ISSN pathway, including OSHA 10 Computer Occupations and CompTIA-related credentials such as A+, Network+, Security+, Server+, and Cloud+, where appropriate.
Support applied projects that connect ISSN and Programming and Web Development, including web design, basic programming, database concepts, front-end and back-end development, networking, cybersecurity, and cloud-based applications.
Manage the storage, maintenance, inventory, and use of technology equipment, tools, devices, software, supplies, and instructional materials to prevent loss, misuse, or unsafe conditions.
Establish and maintain standards of student conduct that support an orderly, safe, professional, and productive learning environment.
Maintain accurate records of student grades, attendance, discipline, technical skill development, safety performance, credential progress, and progress toward competencies.
Communicate regularly with students, families, school counselors, employers, administrators, and support staff regarding individual student progress.
Evaluate each student’s performance, knowledge, technical skills, employability skills, professional conduct, and progress toward course and program expectations.
Prepare progress reports and other required documentation in a timely and accurate manner.
Collaborate with the CTE Director, Co-op Coordinator, Programming and Web Development staff, colleagues, advisory board members, employers, postsecondary partners, and community organizations to strengthen program quality and student opportunities.
Support career-connected learning, cooperative education, internships, job shadowing, advisory board activities, field experiences, guest speakers, and industry partnerships when appropriate and approved.
Assist with recruitment, outreach, student pathway exploration, and family engagement related to ISSN and broader information technology career pathways.
Stay current in information technology, networking, cybersecurity, cloud computing, software tools, industry credentials, workplace practices, and effective teaching strategies.
Use computers, instructional technology, software tools, learning platforms, and digital resources effectively for instruction, assessment, communication, and administrative responsibilities.
Participate in staff meetings, professional development, department meetings, advisory meetings, and school-based initiatives.
Fulfill any additional teaching duties as assigned by the CTE Director or school administration.
